Black Horse Farm Ferry Pitch

This question might be in the wrong section but thinking that those who follow overseas discussions are more likely to be able to answer my query. I would like to know how a ferry pitch at Black Horse Farm differs from a standard pitch please?

    Afternoon

The ferry pitches are all hardstandings and are near the gate so eraly leavers don't disturb everyone else. You pay for them before arrival.

From my experience of using Black Horse Farm ferry pitches it varies. As JK indicates the "actual" designated ferry pitches allow departure without going through the main site. However we have been put on a pitch on the main site and I suspect it might depend on what time you are leaving, in our case, on that occasion, it was around 9.00am. Just in case you are concerned about being disturbed by early leavers. We had a pitch on the ferry section once which when we went to bed was full, when we woke up it was all but empty!! We had not heard any of the early leavers!!!

Lucky you ! We were woken long ago at 4 am.by the hitch up and leave routine of the outfit next door. “Back a bit, Right a bit, no I meant left, Stop”  We thought that drive through pitches in the early departure section would have been a good idea. Was that ever implemented?

If you have ever stayed at Rookesbury Park when arriving back in the Uk then it's quite a similar set up, although we have stayed in the leaving area at BHF for 3 nights as I didn't want to move a second time on the eve of departure. Not generally experienced too much inconvenience although we have tended to travel outwith of High Season.

I have used the ferry pitches pre covid age and the system was handled very well by the site staff. It used to be outer sanctum, inner sanctum, and normal non ferry pitches.

Outer area,is nearer the road anyway so you do get traffic noise especially in rush hour, also all non awning and you cannot (officially) leave unit connected to tow car.As mentioned before, site fees are paid in advance ,and if you arrive out of hours details of you pitch are in an envelope on the site office wall.

    Hi,

Have had two very mediocre visitor experiences at BHF once on the one night only Ferry pitch area. It's ok for a Dover Ferry but a fair detour for the Tunnel at Folkstone - we now go elsewhere (as a tunnel user).

I'm pretty sure you cannot reserve a 'drive through' Ferry Pitch at BHF unless perhaps a mega unit (5th wheel maybe). I have many times, if space for car allowed, done a very simple un-hitch & level without shuffling tow car around for ease & a simple depart.

Expect some overnight noise in the ferry pitch area so unless your also out of normal hours go onto the main area. Suggest avoiding pitching up next to any van conversions though mainly due to regular slamming noise of sliding side doors.

NB For a BHF 'Ferry' pitch (regardless of a prior confirmed on-line booking) be very aware a pre pay system was / is still operated for late arrivals - no exceptions regardless of in-convenience as office is closed & coded gate is strictly down after normal hours - expect a row !

Sorry not sure how you went to the tunnel but its about a 20 minute 8 or 9 mile drive back onto A/M20, about the same as going to Dover?

Also do not understand your comments

Why expect a row, as office is shut taking payment before arrival and pitching instructions on the board works well for both camper and site staff, why would you object to paying prior to arrival and why would you argue with the staff over this and what inconvenience???

I am sorry if you perhaps mis-understood....

My point was that if you do not follow the rules (and just pre-pay) but then just risk it and turn up very late at night demanding entry then - 'expect a row'. It should have perhaps said 'or expect a row'.

So when we (like many do) choose to approach the general area down the M20 for us it's then a 20 minute drive past the tunnel up to BHF and then another 20 minutes back the next day so a dead 40 minutes & 18 miles of travel.

Sorry but I rarely post on here now and will restrain.

TBH you would not turn up at any site late at night and expect to be let in would you, just etiquette?

Only used it once, but found it very convenient. The ferry pitches near the gate are long enough to stay hitched - at least mine was. I also don't understand the comment about the tunnel - just as easy to get to as Dover. There was a time a couple of years ago when a detour was necessary due to road works closures.

If you don’t like the road noise and are in no early morning rush to get away book an awning pitch - they are all in the main site. You don’t have to put an awning up, just insist that you are going to!!!!!!
