Re January article page 68 introducing James Bachelor as the clubs new towcar reviewer- not with standing his journalistic skill as outlined briefly at the start of the article - but how can anyone review a towcar if you have never towed a caravan in your life??

Perhaps he is the ideal person to review towcars as he comes with no preconceived ideas of what is good or bad. As I understand it he is an experienced motoring journalist who is now branching out into towcars. He has now done a towing course, which I suspect many caravanners don't do? He could turn out to be an inspired choice?

motoring journalism these days seems to just be the ability to cut & paste others' reviews .... every Citroen is 'quirky' and every Smart has a cr4p  auto gearbox etc etc

I've towed something of some sort for many years now - maybe 45 years?? ..... I'm intrigued as to what a towing course could have told/taught me that I couldn't have worked out for myself. 🤷‍♂️

I think starting at a low point with no preconceptions or views does have it's advantages.

I have NO interest in football, so when friends with a favorite team start waffling on, and I happen to have seen, under duress, 5 minutes of a game, I can give a totally unbiased opinion without preference or favour or who where the the most useless and pathetic overpaid gang of bag or wind kickers on the green stuff.

As none of us have seen, or are likely to see, the Job Description we are in no position to really judge what the Club required from this recruitment.  It is interesting so many seem to be willing to judge and dam someone before they have actually seen anything to judge the person on. At least he was brave enough to put his head above the parapet to recall his experience of a towing course. Had he not done that we would be non the wiser. I think the way the Club review most things could do with a refresh so perhaps this is the starting point?

it doesn't bode well if you can't even fit your extended mirrors without them falling off .... 🤔

I've just dug the article out & read it. Coincidently, the first time I reversed anything with was a tractor too .... mine was a real one though.

I always thought if you had a position to fill the best way would be to advertise it so you could pick the best from applicants who apply

    maybe a one horse race

I am neither of the above (thank goodness) but hope I can help by pointing out that this is primarily a discussion forum and input by staff is not frequent. The Contact Us button is available for addressing questions directly to the club and John Todd may well have gone down that route. I guess we'll never know.

Whilst people are welcome to have their opinions, and that is all they are, this is not the place to discuss a staff member of the Club. If people have concerns they should take that up with the Club directly. I am now going to close this thread to further discussion.
