Hi,

Hopefully we are travelling from Portsmouth to Santander on the morning ferry on the 25th Jan arriving at 14.30 on the 26th. We are then heading towards Benicassim.

I only want to do one stop over on the way so I would be grateful for any help re possible locations, I would rather like to avoid driving in the dark if possible. This will only be our second visit to Spain with the motorhome so still a learning curve

Try Zaragoza or Haro- theyre not too difficult to find if you do your travel planning before you go. Benicassim is a great site- can't wait to go back again

    HT11,

Thank you very much, We used Zaragoza site on our previous trip and just about managed it before dark and that was docking earlier and at Bilbao.

The Haro area looks ideal re distance, I will do a bit more research in the area for overnight sites. I haven’t bothered with a ACSI card this time as our main sites are booked.

    many thanks

I'd say Haro looks a good bet. Zaragoza is probably a bit of a stretch. In a MH, plenty of aires along the route if you fancy stopping somewhere between the two.

if Macron doesn't change his mind and let us go via France, we'll be doing the same trip shortly.

I agree with Haro. You're only looking at arond 3 hours daylight driving if you're lucky, just abou make Haro. We got off at Santander in October and it took 50 mins. to get on the road. As BB says, if you're in a motorhome find an aire, get some kip and set off at first light. I guess you'll be heading for Bonterra Park? Good site with some brilliant cycling and walking. Enjoy, we're jealous!yell

We've used Zaragoza, didn't have any problems arriving in the dark.

"if Macron doesn't change his mind and let us go via France, we'll be doing the same trip shortly"

reports in press that French ski resorts expecting Brits next week.

last couple of trips have gone via Burgess, good site at Burgess close to motorway for overnight stop,  rather than Zaragoza, last time we stayed there the facilities block was freezing.

did consider shortening our March-June trip and heading out next week, but temperatures in Mazarron/Torrevieja not much more than 15 degs, plenty of sun during day but cold overnight, and always the chance of snow in France/Northern Spain.

Only live 30 mins from Portsmouth ferry terminal so anything is possible, could get a return flight for not much more than £120, stay 9 days and still do March-June trip laughing

Staying anywhere 'on the Plain' in January is going to be cold. With our usual crossing to Cherbourg (not currently running) we stop near Nantes, then Irun (neither is too cold) then skip all the way to Benicassim in one go from Irun.

weather currently there looks pretty good to me...you can add several degrees to the listed daytime temp as these are shade temps....in the sunshine it's far warmer, feels like we'll over 20 deg.

In my experience, the Costa Blanca nights at this time of the year are always cold.

Thank you all for comments, most welcome, hopefully all will go well this time and we won’t have to ‘hot foot’ it back early across country when they locked down and cancelled the ferries 😂
