New Site Booking System

Indeed, especially for those of us who have further to travel to where sites are more plentiful.
I think, for us,, if the site cannot initially be booked for the dates we want, we would just look for an alternative, could not be bothered with trying to add days as they become available, far too risky in future.

It's still good to discuss though TW. It's also good to see different posters coming on to this thread (no disrespect intended). There's been some good points raised on this and other threads which I've found useful and I've taken questions to our regular zoom training things even though everything has already been noted by someone looking in

So are you saying the club hasn’t thought things through in detail yet, JK, and is relying on folk asking 'what if' questions here? That shocks me!
I agree about seeing different posters but it’s a shame they don’t contribute elsewhere on the forum and probably won’t continue posting once this change becomes history.😕

Try entering the UK Sites & Touring section of the forum front page and then just scroll down to this discussion, Arch. Alternatively, bookmark the discussion.
Finding it from Latest Activity relies on there having been recent activity.

Thinking about it I reckon I have been quite lucky in being successful. We don't do anywhere near as many nights away in our van as your and quite a few others do. If its part of a tour I might abandon a site in preference for going somewhere else. I have never seen it as an issue and I try and be flexible.

They did say that but you've missed the next part, that many of these, the vast majority I think was the words but could be wrong, were resold and then that this does not make it desirable. I don't think it was raised as a concern at the time (AGM 2020), just an answer to a question.
Personally I agree with EuroT (I think upthread) that the idea is to generate more cash in advance.

It won't affect me as I've booked SP so will get my choice of pitch whatever for booking even into January 2023.
But after April I will probably book sites for this year for short stays and choose HS in the assurance I'll get one. But that means that someone who has booked under the old system hoping for a HS (on a high % HS site) is going to find that the numbers of HS on arrival maybe reduced?
Post edit: An example of the above: One site I've always wanted to go back to is New England Bay but have been put off by the small number of HS (yes I know but my choice), so I might book under the new system and book a HS, so anyone booked under the old system will find an even smaller number to choose from when they arrive. If more people do the same as me, there might not be any? ,

New England Bay is on very hard ground and the vast majority of "grass" pitches are harder than many gravel hard standings.elsewhere.

Moderator: Post slightly edited in part.
For my part, I am truly sorry that the Club has been persuaded into this change. As it stands, this Club is one of the richest with an enviable USP which it is voluntary giving up at the exact time it should be protecting its market share in the COVID/post COVID era. At the time many, many members will have their sights abroad, this Club should be ensuring it protects its market share. This change, right now ...?

Yes that is true and I do recall that from out visit but when it rains (and it did) the grass still got wet and there was some mud around, but worst of all there were a lot rabbits and they left many deposits () and a lot of all of this got trampled into the awning and caravan despite our best efforts.
We just prefer HS.

I do think the members who prefer and want a HS above all else will be the losers in this, I'm more than happy to use a grass pitch if it's in a nice position and in reasonable condition so the choice on arrival is ok for me but when the new system is running I and I suspect many others will book a HS just to be on the safe side.

arch, it's actually those who've booked early on the old system that will be the losers if it's a HS they're after.....unless the club allow a rebooking period prior to the new system go live.
our only bookings are for June so shouldn't be an issue.

I didn't say that at all TW so don't be shocked. Valuable feedback is what I was referring to.

Ah, the impression I got from your earlier post was as I questioned. Thanks for clarifying.👍

I notice the Club is discounting its unsold Experience Freedom accommodation at the moment. Feedback from me is that I hope the Club will consider doing the same with its unsold pitches if taken up at short notice as well. At all times of the year.

I was doing the same and here is whats said:
I have an existing booking made via the current system which currently enables me to choose between a standard grass pitch or a standard hardstanding pitch upon arrival at site. Now that the new system is going to enable members to pre-book either a grass or hardstanding pitch type at the point of booking, how is the Club going to transfer my booking to the new system? Will my standard pitch type (hardstanding or grass) be allocated ahead of my arrival? And will the pitch type for my booking be prioritised over any new bookings made once the new booking system is live?
Your existing booking(s) will be automatically migrated over to the new booking system prior to it going live to ensure you are allocated a pitch type at your booked Club campsite. To ensure the process is as fair as possible, pitch types for existing bookings will be allocated in strict booking date order, starting with the oldest bookings first.
We know that hardstanding pitches tend to be preferred by most members, therefore we will allocate standard hardstanding pitches as far as possible, followed by standard grass pitches if there are not enough hardstanding's or your booked site doesn't have standard hardstanding pitches. In line with your existing booking, you will be allocated either an awning or non-awning pitch.
Existing bookings will be prioritised for pitch type allocation before any new bookings can be made. The new booking system will only go live when the pitch type allocation process for existing bookings has been completed. From that point onwards, if you wish, you will be able to amend your existing booking(s) to an alternative pitch type to what has been allocated; and new bookings will also be able to be made (all subject to the availability of the remaining pitches and pitch types per campsite).
Timelines for the migration process and pitch type allocation for existing bookings are still being finalised, but rest assured we will contact all members with existing bookings in due course about the pitch type allocation process.peedee

That seems perfectly fair for those who demand a particular pitch surface, but does nothing for those of use for whom location and view are far more important than surface. We are still effectivly being banned from 50% of the club's pitches.

It seems what the answer is saying is if you have a serviced or awning or non awning pitch booked with the present system then those bookings will be honoured, as they are the only pitch types that are bookable with the present system?
,I can still see that if you are booked under the present system there will still be the hardstands (if any)coned off for those who under the later (April this year possibly?) booking system have booked a hardstand
When the hardstand booking trial was held that was one on the biggest problems that members could not understand, why hardstands were empty for days at times and the arrivals had to use grass pitches as some who had booked hardstanding were not arriving for several days but your booking period overlapped

I don't think you'll be contacted, Arch, as it says they know most members prefer HS so will allocate HS pitches as far as possible.
It appears that by transferring all old bookings to the new system they've removed any need for people to cancel and rebook.

Sorry I completely miss read it, they are going to allocate HS to all existing standard pitch bookings starting with the oldest booking followed by Grass if HS run out then if you want you can amend the pitch type on the new system, so it also looks like the ability to amend pitch type will be available

We have already had a phone call from the daughter and the son in law asking if we have booked to go away if so can they stay for a few days I wonder if this will be effected by the new booking system as in the past they arrive we go into reception book them in and pay

Me too. It should be the simplest answer all round.
Thanks for posting that update.
