As I was going to be using tolls anyway through France (not really sightseeing weather in January) I just did a quick googlemap check....blimy, disembark 08:00, Bordeaux for lunch, at only 100km per hour. Then an easy run to Irun before dark.
however, I don't think this is going to wash with anyone, it certainly sounds like the rule is intended for air/train travellers.
interested in which Brits might 'enjoy the provision' as posted earlier.

My what a friendly place this is, especially those who do nothing but speculate, but are so quick to jump down the throat of anyone perceived to be "speculating" of the wrong sort. In fact on this small topic there are only 7 pages of largely speculation (and the occasional insult). When I read the French Gov website the other day, in French, that seemed to be the implication, but it has now been clarified in English and with a lot more detail.
But of course it won't deter the hordes who feel they deserve a foreign holiday, whatever the consequences and the burden they place on foreign countries.
Anyway, I promise never to "speculate" again and quote only facts. (What are "facts" anyway? Probably a bit too epistemological for here)

What burden would that be or are you speculating that by travelling to a foreign country you are always going to catch Covid and place a burden on them?
Of course you could speculate that by travelling in your own vehicle and then staying in said vehicle so you are pretty much isolating apart from a bit of shopping you are at less risk than being in the UK?

Off topic I know, and rather pedantic, but it will be a late lunch I think.
Doesn't the St Malo ferry arrive about 8:15? Then, there's the time it takes waiting to start disembarkation; then you have to queue through customs.
To average 100 kph overall will be a challenge. There are myriad factors that reduce the cruising speed you adopt on the autoroutes to an average speed of significantly less - and that's before you allow for breaks. Your going to have to keep up a pretty high speed - probably on legal limits - and any stops would have to be very brief.
I have done that trip many times, but always in a car. I would see it as a major challenge to arrive at Bordeaux, even the northern outskirts, in time for anything except a pretty late lunch.

Interesting article in the Guardian, not sure if true but thought i would just sound the alert

Not sure about pariah state? as far the French government are concerned, anything they can do to make it difficult for UK citizen's has always been on their agenda

JV, our Govt have been putting obstacles in the way of European companies. A Dutch company was interviewed yesterday, 20% of their trade is with the UK, the CEO stated the brexit rules are constantly being changed by our Govt, it’s madness🤷🏻♂️. We are shooting ourselves in the foot. We need someone to ‘get this done’ with intelligence & respect for everyone not weaponise the people of our country. I want to live in harmony with our European family-I’m European too.

Yes, that's exactly what you cannot do. Airport International Lounge transit for a maximum 24 hour period is the only form of transit permitted through France

My notification came via the UK Gov Website 'Travel Advice to Spain' email update, which said that I needed to ensure that I had complied with the Travel Regs to France before booking, and suggested that I should look at the 'Travel to France' Page; this did not appear to have changed, still saying that references to transit was in relation to International Airport Lounge, a criterion that has been present for about 10 days, with the 'Airport Lounge' clarification appearing around 21st December
The new French Travel Guidance stems from a French Government Order dated 28th December, and there was no French Government Press Release or similar to add context. It may be lazy journalism, but the Guardian article concludes with the reference to 'UK holders of EU [i.e. mainly Irish] Passports being exempt from the new Order'; the earlier Regulation referred to 'EU Passport holders and their families' exemptions
The only political development of which I'm aware since the mid December Travel Prohibition is Ms Truss indicating that the previous acceptance of ECJ as Arbiter of the Withdrawal Agreement will be cancelled, and that Article 16 may well be triggered. And the French indicating that UK need to accelerate the granting of the outstanding French Fishing Licences
Omicron surge may be a red herring; UK & France have similar population sizes, similar COVID record infection rates, so the tightened French Regs on Pandemic grounds seems doubtful, given that the UK caravans and motorhome travellers passing through France are relatively small, and will be pretty much self contained, apart from fuel and food stops where they would need to wear masks as the French are required to do, and the UK residents travelling by road are probably less of an infection risk than a group of people who have been in Economy/Cattle Class on a plane a few hours earlier ...
We can but await further clarification from the French and UK Governments
