Hope none of you have a trip planned to or through France. We have just been banned by Macron, who is quoting Johnson's own words re "tidal wave" etc.

Tip of an iceberg? It’s all beginning to look horribly familiar. Fergus Walsh taking about 1million people self isolating on Xmas day 😲. The implications of that on travel is massive.

Yes closing the door once horse has bolted but with our astronomical rates can you blame them.

Just wondering if Boris pandering to back benchers so they don't oust him rather than keeping face masks and  having covid passports like they do over there has contributed to the rise?sealed

They're not banning Brits who live in France or French who live in Britain, so not a total ban.

Not sure I see why as we seem to import more from the EU than we export especially food at this time of year.

Are there any restrictions travelling from Spain through France to catch the Channel tunnel?

I think Valda said recently that there are no border controls between France & Spain, however you probably stand a good chance of being stopped by the Gendarmes when they spot a UK registration. If you are in Spain now, you have until Saturday..........

    Who knows??

It might be a good idea to keep an eye on CAMC's European Travel Updates HERE

I understood the situation that you could travel for up to 24 hours through France but I'm not at home and the wifi is hit and miss.

I would suggest further investigation, particularly of what you forms/ tests you may need if that is the case.

Unfortunately JVB we are no longer part of the EU and are going to be treated differently to those who still are. However, as I said to me it makes sense, why would you want lots of tourists in your country who might become ill and put even more pressure on your hospitals. Wouldn’t go down well with an election coming up.

It looks like that only applies to those travelling through the country by air and stopping off at airports.

    Full list here.

Couldn't care less, I had and still have no plans to cross the water. I will take it as it comes at the time I decide to travel. I am currently enjoying the mild sunny weather on tour in the UK and current on a  CL in the north of England for my last tour of the year.

That’s a reasonable point, but it’s not really about that. It’s largely a political move, partly to have a pop at the UK (which the French government are inclined to do), and partly posturing to his home crowd ahead of elections. With several international borders to worry about he can’t realistically expect the action to have much impact. We might be ahead of them in terms of infections today, but that will quickly change and the less compliant, sceptical French will soon catch up. The seeds of that shift are already in motion - he’s spitting in the wind. France isn’t exactly overrun with tourists in December/January.

Surely its no different to what we did to Africa a couple of weeks ago? I suspect all the French are doing is to try and buy themselves a bit of time. Whilst not being able to travel to France might be inconvenient, for the French they lose out financially so I can't see any political advantage there?

The lesson is that the Africa action achieved very little apart from some huge hotel bills for a few unfortunates who got caught up in it, only for it all to be dropped a few days later. It didn’t prevent us going from a handful of cases at that time to tens of thousands in only several days. At least that action could be defended by the unknown nature of Omnicron at that time. Macron can’t really believe that’s he’s achieving anything by effectively closing one of 7 international open borders when community transmission is obviously already well in progress at home and with his near neighbours. Brits travelling to France present an insignificant threat in the bigger scheme of things. I don’t see any option to buy time, the bird has flown.

It may have been identified in SA, to which we reacted fairly swiftly so I'm not sure it's stranglehold here has anything to do with travel but simply part of it's mutation process......

IF, as SA suggest, it is more virulent but less inclined to make you 'seriously' ill then perhaps what Professor Whitty says about it rising fast but peaking quickly could be the start of it fading out.....

    Hopeful, I know but a 3rd year...sealedsurprised

+1, Macron is certainly posturing JV, playing to the crowd for election purposes. He’s even been shaking his little fist at Russia😂

Yes, pretty much the same, have ferry booked for end of March but it has been booked for last 2 years and still not used it so no sweat, could you send me some sunshine, been staying at beach house for a few days and although very mild for time of year we have not seen much sun for almost 5 days.

Cant see much chance of this travel ban being lifted anytime soon, the damage will now have been done to the French travel industry with many Brits cxling sking holidays and trips to Disney for Christmas

A PITA, for sure but we are where we are and have to move on...

may see if there is a direct option to Spain but currently all ferries to Santander are full at least till February...this could be an option but there may be a Domino effect in putting up the shutters to us.

having got 'caught' in 2020 when this kicked off, we don't want that again so might take a raincheck...for a bit.

Let’s hope Macron is still minded to support Brittany Ferries should this drag on. There’s a lot of new investment in the fleet to be paid for.  Maybe the Porto route idea might be refreshed?
