New Site Booking System

JVB, what you said was "It does seem that the ccc do have more staff on their sites than this club". Now the only way that can be read is that the CC, i.e. this club has less staff on their sites than the C&CC club, so my question to you about recruitment and retaining staff was pertinent.

JK is an expert in double Dutch it seems!
Please explain in plain English. All I did was quote you and what you said in English was that the ccc have more staff than this club ( meaning the CC club).
I doubt that even a crytograher such as Ian Goldberg could decipher our last sentence above.

I have no dog in this fight but feel that the post telling me that “I.Sip.e Turms” has lightened the winter darkness. All is now clear. Splendid explanation

Yes, but it's still £10 less if its by DD isn't it? £54 or £64.
I was pointing this out to those who say they save by using a credt or debit card eg rewards, points or cash back for a one off payment.
However this is nothing to do with the new booking system but is a way of saving costs.

Nothing has changed in all my time with the club. I don't see the need to change it now. Wrecked pitches get taken out & they get put back in. Complaints regarding the condition of pitches are minimal, except of course on social media.

We used to get all sorts of Europeans come to site so you learn a bit of allsorts. I know a bit of Isipeturms, it's over in the east I think

"Wrecked pitches get taken out & they get put back in..."
That was exactly my point, it's the condition of the offering that drives what's in the pot...

In our admittedly limited experience, the C&CC check in procedure has been very slick and efficient. Much more so than this club, which on occasion has been snail like. Don’t know about the number of staff, but the ones we dealt with were certainly helpful.

But does Social Media have too big an influence on Club thinking?

Morning
Probably best to point that question to Rowena DK. I wouldn't have a clue. This forum is now the only form of social media I partake of in this country. I tend to use American RV forums a lot more, a bit less point scoring going on

Ah, I see. The reason I posted was that you initially said that "for some a direct debit saves £10 on the annual fee rather than paying by card annually", and I just wanted to set the record straight on that one. It's the joining fee that's £10 extra if not setting up a DD.
Can't remember what it was when we joined, it's about 30 years ago now

Was that when a potential member also had to be proposed and seconded by two existing members of good standing . . .?

I can see that the new method of booking by pitch type will be welcomed by some but may well cause some difficulties until it’s bedded in.
When I read that covid could be with us for the next 5 to 10 years I feel that the new deposit’s system will have to be very sensitively implemented. We don’t want to get into the situation where someone who gets “Pinged” a few days before their holiday ends up having to choose between breaking the law or losing their deposit.2 -
Whilst I am looking forward to being able to book a hardstanding it will be interesting to see how it pans out in reality. Obviously all the demand has been for people to be able to book a hardstanding but what we don't know is what sort of demand there will be for grass pitches on those sites which have a choice of both. OK this demand may depend on the time of year. If the Club see that grass pitches are under utilised they will either have to consider more hardstandings or perhaps widening the price gap between hardstanding and grass beyond the currently proposed £1?
On your second point we will have to wait and see if there will be a no cost option to amend a booking between the 21 days and arrival on site? I would hope the Club would be sympathetic to such emergency changes but until we see the new rules its all a bit up in the air.

Option 2 obviously-losing the deposit👍🏻

I can see that those people who prefer to pitch on grass, except in bad weather, might be frustrated by this change in system. But otherwise, I cannot see that there are many who would view factors such as light, views, space etc., as trumping the issue of whether one pitches on grass or hard standing. In any case, it is hard to think you won't get plenty of choice even if you are confined to one pitch type or the other. On these other factors, it remains first come first served, so I do not see the above as much of an argument.
For me it is quite simple; I will not pitch on grass. However, as a counter argument, I must admit that, I cannot ever recall being forced to take a grass pitch as the only pitch type left available (except on all grass sites, obviously, which I now avoid). Judging by other comments here, from people who imply having to go on grass against their will, I appear to have been lucky.
As others have stated, for me, the absolutely ideal system would be to be able to book a specific pitch in advance. Now I see this would stymie Thehappycaravanners, but with that, and payment in advance, it would enable one to be much more relaxed about avoiding unseemly rushes at 1 o-clock and much less in the way of queues. It is clearly not beyond the wit of software developers to have a system like that.

Untill all the tweaking of the system that it seems is still going on? is up and running then I do not think even with all the "marketing speak" that is being banded about from HO , there will be a smooth transition ? So I am sure there will be many calls to the contact centre with queries

If Orkney Council can host such a system for booking their sites, so can the club. Whether it would be beneficial overall, is debatable.

Booking a specific pitch may well possible in the off season (here and abroad) but using this system at peak times and expecting fuly utilised sites is a pipe dream.
I've seen it fail on a 5 van site, requiring the 5th van to move pitches on consecutive nights.

Study their website if you don’t believe me JV. I’ve done it and it works. I’m not in the habit of making things up.
