Another one here with the P&O shares. Not used them for years until coming back from Portugal when covid struck. Used Zeebrugge to Hull ferry and the fare for a flexible ticket with dinner a good cabin and breakfast was quite a bit cheaper than an inflexible ticket without the add ons. It was also much more comfortable than coming through the tunnel and then having to drive from the south of England.
I will miss the Hull- Zeebrugge service as it was really good for getting to eastern France.

Reading all the logistical challenges that some of you from 'oop north face before getting to your sunny destinations makes me realise how fortunate I am to live ten minutes from the ferry.

Yesterday I booked our ferry for next year using our BF voucher.
Portsmouth to St Malo, Return Caen to Portsmouth.
Strange way they are now pricing MHs, we have a 6.36 m MH with a bike rack on the rear its comes in at around 6.75 so overall still under 7m in length.
Our friends MH is just a fraction under 7m.
When we made our bookings he was charged £20 less for his MH for exactly the same crossing on the same dates (we are travelling together)
Why the extra charge for us, the bike rack. It turns out that despite the fact his MH is longer and higher than ours, because we have bikes on the rear, we are charged £10 extra per journey.
I know £10 isn't a big deal when you are paying £500 for a return crossing, its just the fact that as ferries work on length and height surely if you are under 7m even with bikes on the rear you should pay the same.
For info, BF don't go up in half metre increments its 6m, 7m 8m +
With some ferry companies as long as you come in under the up to figure, it doesn't matter if you have bikes on the rear or not.
Does anyone know why BF are different.

Hi TG. I inquired earlier this year as regards how a roof mounted bike rack would be charged and, below, is email I sent and the response I got in march this year.
It would see to be different from how you have been charged however, I had been previously told not to add the roof mounted items if the overall height was lower than the van so in your position would have just stated the length I required including the rack.
I have a question regarding height supplements.
I tow a caravan and BF have previously informed me that I should not add anything to the car height if this is the same, or lower, than the caravan height to avoid being charged twice for the additional height.
I am hoping to travel later this year and will likely be taking a roof mounted bike.
My intention was to book for a caravan up to 3m, I have previously booked for 2.6m, to allow for the extra height of the car with the bike.
Can you please confirm this is the correct procedure?

Thanks for that, I have emailed BF and asked them to look at my booking.
It does seem to be a bit unfair having to pay for a bike rack yet still be less length than our friends who are paying less.
Guess I will have to wait and see what their response is, if I'm not happy with it I'll try phoning.
In the past when we took the car and caravan we were told something similar to you, our tow car is a little over 1.85 in height so would have to go up into the next height category but because we are towing a caravan which is 2.6 we were told to just put the car at 1.85. On that occasion common sense did rule. Here's hoping it will be the same again.

Looking at Hull - Rotterdam crossing for next year I don't think the cost has gone up by much at all, if anything its pretty much the same. Shame we are not going that way
BF it would appear have significantly increased their crossings especially the Portsmouth - Caen - Portsmouth route.
St Malo we haven't done for awhile and always considered it to be an expensive route.
Looking at it now (we have booked it one way) it comes out as good value. Taking into account that its a night crossing so £65 extra for an outside premier cabin. The price for the actual crossing is less than the Caen crossing. By the time you add on another night on a campsite here in the UK for the Caen crossing then the St Malo overnight route comes out very favourable and places us in the part of France we want to be in the morning ready to start our journey.

Totally agree with you David.
I think we are going to miss the Zeebrugge crossing as for us it was a no brainer. Drive to Hull in one day, get overnight ferry, by tea time the next day we can be around Le Man or in Luxembourg. Rotterdam is ok but if heading south it does add on a couple of hours extra, yet still works out no more costly than 2 nights on campsites getting to Dover another days driving and £100+ on fuel.
Probably using the tunnel 1 way at the back end of the year as I have enough for a Tesco/Tunnel voucher might even have enough by then for a return

Still trying to get an answer from BF about the bike rack. Have emailed twice got auto replies but no follow up. I've phoned once spoke to someone and promised a call back, nothing.
So today I contacted them on their main FB page and finally got a response from a staff member, who apologised and advised that my emails have been forwarded to customer services and hopefully I should hear soon. Might be to late for this booking as the final payment is due on the 6th March.
Its totally crazy charging you twice for the same thing.

Doesn’t sound like customer service at BF is improving much, I had similar problems about 2 weeks ago. Shame, they always used to be very good.

Ahh, the penny has just dropped-someone posted previously, not sure if on here, about a bargain fare with DFDS which I was skeptical about.
On checking, I had only looked at my potential dates, it turned out that the late boat on a Saturday night was app £75 for car & van.
Looking at my June date crossing times the only viable option is 1000 and that £178.20 one way.Still much less than BF but would mean an overnight and a day off the holiday.

Return trip even cheaper. Booked through DFDS.fr. Paid in euros, after conversion, £76.23. Arrived Dunkirk Auchan 1700, topped up with fuel and duty free. Ferryport 1830, walk, dinner, and bed by 2100. Up at 0430, 0445 check in, Whilst waiting Coffee and wake up. 0600 ferry. Breakfast onboard, very quiet. Home by 1100.
