Great system at Wharfdale site where a warden stands out [in the pouring rain most of the time we were there] while the rush is on. Takes your membership card and checks you have booked then directs you to find a pitch and come back later when it is quieter to complete booking in and paying.

That’s it. Registered at Companies House as a Ltd Co but not listed on the stock exchange as a plc with shareholders. Directors/officers are employees of the company👍🏻

Please excuse my predictive text for removing the 'y' in your name earlier😳

I agree. Perhaps no refund if cancelling a booking 31 days or less in advance.

I don’t think you are going to be able to have a deposit greater than one night’s stay, for a one night stay🤔

Simple way round that one is pay up front for anything under the minimum deposit. That is pretty much the norm for most systems.

I do like the C&CC book-in system. Auto payment of balance on the day. No need to get out of vehicle and escort to appropriate pitch type. Very slick and much faster than a CAMC check-in.

I didn’t think I was going to like being shown to a pitch, but so far it has been OK with the pitches offered all very  reasonable. However, it does mean they know what pitch number you are on, so no need to go back. In the CAMC’s case they could hand over a barrier card and record it against your name / pitch number.

Yes, let’s hope that will work. I tried to pay for a one night stay at Exeter Racecourse by phone in September, but was told it wasn’t Club policy to accept payment until arrival, so things will change hopefully.

    Morning

Interesting post TTDA. I reckon this season we have taken payment over the phone on arrival day for about 50% of our visitors. It has been well received and is encouraged by our regional manager, the very same manager that oversees Exeter racecourse.

The new batch of wardens have changed the Chatsworth check in and it's much more slick.  One of them meets you just before the bridge, ticks your name on a list, gives you the map and tells you to pitch.  The you go back to the office to pick up your gate key and pay.

Far more efficient than three units in the courtyard whilst the rest wait on the lane and very little queuing.

Hmm, that is interesting. The reason I asked if it was ok to pay over phone, was because I knew we would arrive after the office had closed (around 4pm there, as a single couple look after it I think.) I was concerned we might be up and off before office opened next morning, and didn’t want to be hanging around waiting to pay. In the event we duly picked up our pitching details neatly stuck to office door, pitched up, and I was first into office next morning, so it wasn’t an issue. Payment would have been collected over phone had we left, so all was fine, so we just went with things. Wouldn’t want to get staff into bother, they were having a bit of a nightmare as boiler had broken down, so they were calling folks due in to explain situation, hence why I asked to pay over phone on our way up. We hadn’t actually arrived when they phoned, still on our way up, so maybe that was the hesitancy? Didn’t bother us, we were happy to go with whatever suggested.

I left a review on the site this time - first for ages.  Chatsworth is a site we go to 6 or 7 times a year and the new wardens are so laid back.  Coloured lights outside the office.  Colouring competition for Halloween for the children. Two pizza vans and a fish and chip van each week so that's three nights when you don't potentially have to cook.

They didn't seem to be bothered if there was more than one car on the pitch - i noticed multiple cars on pitches on numerous occasions. Slick new check in procedure. Well stocked shop but I do wish they'd try and get newspapers again!  Just my small gripe.

    Well done to them all.

You haven't eliminated "untouched by human hand" though. With C&CC pitch type has already been selected so the only question asked is "sun or shade". That plus previous surface type selection covers all the choice you need surely? Are you that picky about a pitch? Aside from the choices previously mentioned, they all look the same to my undiscerning eye. Perhaps I'm easily pleased.

I was once in the CCC. I did not leave because pitches were chosen for one, but that was certainly a contributory factor.

I tend to be very selective about choosing my pitch. I don't worry too much about sun, but other factors abound, really too numerous to mention. Nonetheless, I would be happy to list them if anyone wants to know.

Picky is a pejorative word; I am discerning about where I pitch, not picky. Moreover, judging by the evidence of my own eyes, I am perfectly certain that most other members are the same. Surely few would simply take the first available pitch which is what this post implies.

Gray, I think a list of "too numerous to mention" factors goes way beyond "discerning".😄

Yes, I take the first available pitch providing it's not obviously horrible.

I must admit that before I joined the C&CC it did concern me about being taken to a pitch which I then thought involved me in not having a choice. The reality was somewhat different. I have never not had a choice and the suggested pitches are often chosen from the information you give to the Site Manager. I have even been on a couple of sites where I have been left to find my own pitch, although that is rare. As we tend to select sites on their location it is sometimes worth accepting the perceived inconvenience of the C&CC system. I can't see the CMC going down that route as a general way of doing things. If, in future we can book pitch type, all reception needs to say is to look for a pitch peg of this colour and things will carry on the same.

Ditto, with a motorhome if you are stopping but briefly I see no need to be too choosy. Even with the C&CC and commercial sites who nominate pitches you can still ask to change if the pitch is not to your liking.

Same here. We usually arrive so late at a Club Site, there’s usually only one pitch left anyway. Somewhat surprisingly, we have never had a bad one, so it shows you have folks have different priorities. For us it’s usually just a space to park up and sleep.

That’s right, PD, and even if staying longer than a night or two, we'll be out through the day and not spend long on site.

AD mentioned neighbours but the very nature of touring sites is that neighbours change frequently so it’s not worth a great deal of consideration in my view.

I don’t know what the other Club does and have no experience of neighbours with TV sets in their awnings…but I did once write a review of a family run site saying “Where else would a lady site owner turn out in pouring rain to choose a flat, dry pitch for us and organise a group of other residents to unhitch the caravan and shove it into place for us”. What’s not to like?

Just as the on duty site staff here were doing when it was pouring with rain the other day, and a couple of what looked like new members surprised

Not me😁 Experience has taught us what to look out for, some things are geographical, some things relate to what we might have planned on our stay, a few criteria relate to immediate neighbours, location of various things on Site, and any peculiar Site rules that might be in operation. Then there’s the type of adjacent tourer, the age range of the owners, and any clues, dead giveaways in vehicles. Sounds a lot, but a twenty second glance and a bit of pre arrival research usually has things sorted😂 It’s rare we have a problem to be honest.

More or less ditto. Might be the second. As I prefer one close to an EHU post so I can use my 10 metre lead. Saves a few seconds and a bit of effort when packing up.😂
