No cordon between alternate pitches. This is Gloucester M5 services. But the Cluib is reluctant to copy it.

With regard to the 'visitors' questions....I'm advocating using 'visitors parking areas' to double up as additional overnight parking during the 'evening' (with appropriate spacing' but to remain as visitor parking during the daytime, where less spacing would be required.

hence, no additional pitches/space needs to be commandeered, other than appropriate markings for a dual purpose area.

ET's photo shows vehicles too close for the club (although not unusual for typical continental aire..) but wider spaces (with alternates being used could do the job) and when reverting to 'the visitor car park' then the number of vehicles would increase.

of course, some sites may have much more spare space that could be organised to provide this sort of overnighting without impacting other parking provision at all.

yes but I feel it will be a good while yet, they were only planning to explore the viability and I think that won't start till next year at least now?

Are they actually staying overnight there, or is it just a parking area?

The club is also bound by the fire spacing rule/regulations.

I thought it was a common complaint that club sites look too much like car parks! undecided

Ok so you're back to your idea of changing car parks to pitches again? But actually that wasn't clear, you were talking about pitches?

every other wide pitch could be coned off,

with using car parks I think that is a bit unfair on those who have two cars with their caravan, which I found out recently cannot now be on one pitch even for a fee btw, on my last site there was about 10 or so cars like this and only a few spaces left. Your plan would affect this?

You can stay overnight if you pay. No idea on if there are any restrictions on what appliances you are  allowed to use. However, when we stopped there our fridge clicked over to gas, as it does if we stop for more than 15 minutes.😀

However, they aren’t paying anything extra. A MH stopping there would. So much better for the club.

Ok easy, put a charging fee on?

But they maybe are part of an outfit staying overnight and therefore will have paid the per person extra already, certainly the case with me.

visitors car parking is unused overnight other than those campers who feel they must have two cars for their one pitch booking.

as Steve says, these currently incur no parking charge...perhaps they should, the same price as an overnight 'parking space'?.

making use of an unused facility to satisfy a different demand (especially when one demand doesn't impact on the other) seems sense to me, provided the spacing can be be got right and a spare slot can be found for the person who has to have two cars...

Ok so would those posters who are keen on this idea be happy with that? say £18? Not including EHU of course? Over to them I suppose for an answer?

Actually that price for those services that rather steep for what is really a car park in this case? Wouldn't a simple CL near be better value? Not to mention more space and individualitysmile

I know you have been on club sites BB and so then you'll know that a pitch booking as you call it includes a pitch fee and a per person fee. It is not as you tried to disguise it as one pitch booking, so the extra person fee could be thought of as paying for that car parking space? In my case it was paid for twice over.

Yes I think the car park should be charged for, probably more money enring in that than  converting the car park as you wish to do for mainly motorhomes? And fairer too in my view

who feel they must have two cars  ... person who has to have two cars

Many MH feel they must have an extra cars? Why any different for caravans?

There are a number of reasons who people want to have a second car with them, not for you to judge perhaps? Many MHs do and on their pitch as well for free as well, maybe that should be charged if the club charged for car parking? In my case we stay longer while two more adults wanted to share our caravan for the weekend. But yes certainly charge.

That sounds very mean wanting to charge extra if a MH has a small car along.  After all, MH+car will take no more space than Caravan+car.

Is this some new rule that a second car cannot be on the pitch?  What happens when the site has no carpark?  Yes, there are a few that do not have a car park.

I'd actually mentioned £12-£15 which I thought seemed about right. Any more and there are other options.

also, the pitch (car parking space...) could be sold for a one off price...no separate 'pitch' or 'person' charge.

Of course they are staying overnight. This one is Taunton M5 services. Why are these places not bound by fire spacing rules? It’s time the Club built some separate overnight parking areas for those who want them instead of sites. They are obviously legal.

I think it must be a new rule, I asked to have our second car on the pitch and certainly we've done that many time before on that site but was informed (very nicely and apologetically) that it was no longer possible to pay a fee and do this, was this on all sites I asked? and I was told yes on all sites. It was only a weekend so not that much bother so left it at that.

As for being mean, I don't think the club will take too much notice of me (yes imagine that) but if you start to charge for cars in the car park then why not?

Why of course? there are similar spaces for MH and caravans at other service stations and not all allow overnight parking.

Why is it time? If other providers like this do it why should the club? So I assume if the club did you would be happy to stay on a  club site and pay £18/23? I thought you preferred much cheaper sites and much more space and even posted photographs showing how much space?

You have mentioned club sites look like car parks? Well really the case here.

I’d be OK with £18, as long as it included at least use of water, waste and CDP. Not bothered about EHU for a night.

Motorways are all expensive, some more so than Gloucester. They do have the advantage you can pull into them at anytime of the night and don’t need booking. However, they wouldn’t be my first choice.

Overnight stops🤔 We have a nice little list of very cheap, very safe CLs that we use. Sometimes with EHU, sometimes not. Prices range from £8 to £12. We might arrive as late as 10pm, be off again by 9am. We aren’t fans of motorways, so have few problems finding somewhere nice, not too far off our chosen route. If we get away in December🤞, we intend hitting a few Britstops, so no pitching fee, but a nice takeaway meal.

You can have a view like this, and services for €11...we don't normally a pay but if the site is right...

not enough space for some, but for an overnight on the way to the next destination, what's not to like?

Is that Calpe by any chance? One of our friends from Cornwall has just bought a house near there  (strange timing we thought!) and we're planning to visit in February. smile

Ah, should have spotted Rock with a capital R!

Calpe has a rock (huge but with a small r) and a marina nearby so just thought about it when I saw that view.
