    JVB,

It might not work that way for Tammy as she has to deal with Scotland and their system.

I looked up our local NHS Commissioning Group today as I know they run walk in clinics for the Booster jabs thinking I might be able to sneak in!!! They are saying that all those who had their second jab before Easter 2021 can use the walk in centre but after that will be turned away so I will just have to be patient. A week on Friday will be our six months plus one week, so not too long.

No, up here we get a letter with an appointment direct from NHS Scotland.   If it does not suit then you can re-arrange on line or by phone.   Letters seem to be arriving about 1 week before your  appointment.

I tried to book on line today, as a younger neighbour was already booked in....then, after being rejected I did a proper check of the days since our last jabs, 183 to be exact, so now will see what happens when we reach the target 190 days plus. What we have found out is that the pfizer booster is only available at a limited number of places, due to storage problems. Both available venues are a good distance from us.

WN, you are correct our system is different in Scotland.

Today I decided to look on my NHS account and there I saw that I had been invited for my booster 😊 I assume a letter is waiting for me at home. My appointment is for Sunday afternoon. We won't be home in time.  So I went on to re arrange it, the system stalled at the last page. Managed to call a local to us number and had a very helpful young man assist me. Result he booked both myself and OH in for our Covid and Flu jabs next Wednesday morning 😊😊😊

I'm going to frame the first 4 words of your post Tammy.laughing

Funnily enough I am going for my booster on Wednesday. We have a similar system here whereby we were given an appointment by letter but they quite happily changed mine as I'll be away when it was originally scheduled. Had the flu jab about 4 weeks ago.

They do reckon that you get the best boost by having different vaccine for your booster than for your first vaccines.

Brue, I would suggest trying the 119 number when you get the text/email instead of trying on line. The guy we talked to was really helpful and arranged for us to have ours where and when it suited us......it's good to talk!!

Talking to someone today who is self employed and had the virus two weeks ago. Self isolated as required but 2 daughters, teenagers, both wanted to go out to parties even though they were positive but not showing any symptoms. He wasn't in their good books when he put his foot down.

Not the first example of this kind I've come across. I did wonder why the girls were so ill informed but glad at least that the father had stopped them from passing it on to anyone else.

Thanks DD and Nellie, a delay in seeing your responses. We have had a text through about booking, I booked via 119 (the long route due to poor line) and OH booked on line, both together for booster at Haynes Motor Museum. Only two choices, there or Taunton Race Course due to their provision for Pfizer or alternatives.

We had our boosters yesterday.  Only Pfizer available in our place, which is the same as our first two.  We booked through the NHS website and it appears they are very critical that the 190 days are completed before you can book.  We kept trying (as we had received no invitation) as we thought we could book in advance so we tried at 185 days, 186 days, etc until on Tuesday we must have reached the magic number and we booked for the next day.  Lots of teenagers also having jabs, hopefully a good move.

My first 2 were AstraZeneca, but my booster was Pfizer, the doctor who gave it said it was important to have a different one this time round.    Is the thinking on this different in England?

The thinking in England is the same.  It now seems to be generally accepted that vaccinating people with both the AZ and Pfizer vaccines produces a potent immune response against the SARS-CoV-2 virus.  [Deleted User User] has described what seems to have been a very good immune response smile.

If your first and second vaccines were AZ the view is that you should have a different one as your booster which usually means Pfizer or perhaps Moderna as apparently they are a different type of vaccine to the AZ which should give very high levels of protection.

Oh yes, Castrol R ha ha!! laughing

I'm a bit of a chicken over the Pfizer as I reacted to the AZ, took a good week or so to recover, same as my sister who then reacted badly to the Pfizer....help! So did OH so we're having the boosters after a short trip away rather than before otherwise we might not be feeling too good. My BIL has had no reactions to any of it.

Thank you for your "support and helpful suggestions,"  if you see a glow in the south you'll know it's us....wink

Some will also get an alternative like Moderna, depends on the medical opinions about an individual's state of health etc.

Our First and second was the "oxford"jab. When we had our booster here in Norfolk it was the Pfizer  , we were were  also issued with another card

We asked at the Vacine centre about it being a different vacine and were told they had been told that  tests? had seem to show it actually could give  better protection by mixing

The main criteria as to which you get depends on location.  The main centres that have a large turnover and the facilities to keep and dispense Pfizer use that if possible, the smaller hubs are providing a half dose of Moderna.  Of course medical need trumps those consideration and could mean you being sent elsewhere if needs be to get what you need.

OH has had 2 Pfizers......absolutely no reaction.  She has her booster tomorrow.

I had 2 AZs.......first one I had chills for  a day, second one nothing.  No reaction to my recent Pfizer one either.

The flu one I had in my other arm however was painful at the site for a few days, first time that has ever happened.

Oh blimey I’m worried now!  Perhaps we should have had a different brand this time?  We’ve both had 3 Pfizer jabs, we weren’t given a choice and they knew we had Pfizer previously.  Oh well, we have to assume it will work, it’s in my arm now!  No reactions for either of us, just a tender arm.

I think it's just the AZ groups who are being offered the alternatives.

Top tip I was given abou Flu jab, which can be a bit of a stinger occasionally. If you completely relax your arm, it does apparently help with preventing the after jab soreness. Had no ache at all this year from my Flu jab. Muscle as relaxed as possible. Never felt a thing.

That is very true, also If the vaccinator hits the "golden triangle" (the ideal area of the deltoid muscle) it helps. Several other things affect it also.  The needle size, the viscosity of the fluid, and the speed at which it is injected.
