M, if you have had a text saying that you are eligible for a booster you can book one on the phone by calling 119. We were able to book ours for this coming Thursday in Penzance.

Looks like our experience in hoping for a booster but being unable to book an appointment is not unique!

A friend of mine who lives in Liverpool texted to say she'd her booster today at a walk in, no appointment needed. Perhaps things are changing. OH made an appointment for next week on the NHS website, had the choice of about 10 centres and loads of dates/times. Could have had an earlier one than that, but holidays got in the way!

We've been told, Wales remember, to wait for a letter before contacting the number to make the appropriate appointment.
The local surgery won't deal with a phone enquiry.
The letter arrived about a week before MiLs due 180 days. We too had to postpone it until we returned from holiday but I took her down to the centre today. She said it looks like the jabbers are getting a bit tired as there was no gentleness to the procedure at all and not just the injection.

OH had a text and email, but I don't know about my friend who had hers today. OH had his 2nd on the 10th of April and received his text and email a week ago, pretty well 6 months after his 2nd jab. He also got a text from his GP, but couldn't book that as we weren't at home at the time.

I did complain that it was difficult to make a flu jab booking at our Drs. However, they have now offered us jabs for flu and the booster. We didn’t really want them at the same time but we weren’t going to turn it down. Booster tomorrow 182 days after our second jabs, seems pretty good timing.

Our six months since our last vaccination ends at the end of the month. There seem to be some confusing messages. I read on a local, to me, news website that a walk in centre had been opened in CMK but I am not sure what the reaction would be if you have not had six months since you last jab? The Government website definitely says don't contact them or try and book an appointment until the six months is up. I don't quite see the problem with making the appointments in advance? Is it just me or has the Government taken its eye off the ball as far as COVID is concerned?

It’s every person for themselves now DK. Personal responsibility for one’s own safety, and if you are lucky, your GP will be organised, and able to get vaccine. My Mum was 6 months to the day. Expecting OH to get the next call, with Sis and me a couple of weeks later. OH and Mum had the latest shielding advice literature a couple of weeks ago, but it’s purely advisory, you either accept it or you don’t, choice is up to individual.
Covid rates in UK are very high compared with rest of Europe. We don’t have anything like the ICU bed availability of some other European countries either.

My sister had her booster last week (Scotland) as did her OH they have both now had there flu and boosters.
OH got a phone call last week inviting him to attend our local surgery for his flu jab. Explained we were away until Nov. Oh no problem give us a call and we can arrange it for you. Then a change of mind, you will probably have to go to the vaccination centre and get flu and booster together, you should get a letter inviting you to attend. They don't seem to know what's happening.

My thoughts as well. The numbers are all heading in the wrong direction and the reluctance of HMG to implement any precautions is woeful. We have already seen the consequences on several occasions throughout this pandemic of delaying action. "Lessons have been learned..." but not from where I'm standing. They seemed determined to repeat the errors of the past.

Agree, we were a lot happier shopping and visiting indoor places in Scotland and Wales than in our own country. Now back on tesco.com and minimising any other visits. I think I will be extending my delivery saver when it comes up for renewal. Everything is moving in the wrong direction. Flue jabs next week. 6 months are up on the covid ones on Nov 3rd, so will have to wait and see on those.

Agree with SteveL and Cyberyacht. This government is desperately slow in doing anything that the majority of the population think is the correct way to go. It was the same last March! Maybe, like the rest of Europe, bring back mandatory mask wearing for a start? They are putting all their faith in vaccines and we know that does not stop Covid, you (hopefully) may just get less ill. I am amazed how few people are wearing wearing masks here now.

Completely agree with that. The initial roll out of vaccines was undoubtedly a tremendous achievement but there seems no similar sense of urgency from on high for the booster programme to be seen as similarly urgent. Almost everyone I talk to at home is desperate to have a booster but finding it impossible to get an appointment. The surgery blames lack of supply but that does not seem to be the official line - much easier to blame sloppy old Joe Public for not being bothered.
It seems to me thathat the "butterfly brain" syndrome of our leaders has moved on from Covid - the "green agenda" and COP26 is the current obsession - can't think about two major problems at the same time, obviously!

Had our letters telling us when our appointments are. Mine has been slightly delayed but Mrs WNs is bang on 6 months. So looks like there has been a bit of delay in getting vaccine for the immediate future.
As Nellie mentions elsewhere Moulesy might be an idea to ring locally as he managed to get his in Cornwall.

Agree SteveL, been in Scotland for the last fortnight, it's very noticeable that masks are worn in indoor settings like supermarkets, museums etc. Driving through Dumfries today we saw many people wearing masks just walking along outside. Last time I was in a supermarket in England very few people wore a mask in Tesco, and certainly nobody wore one outside!
Agree with CY that, sadly, lessons don't appear to have been learned at all from past delays.
