No idea how a future deposit scheme might work David. I might tell them in general terms if asked but that is the limit, which is why I said that I would not provide evidence.
Steve said he would go through a long drawn out explanation with proof and hence my comment.

Just cancelled our outing next week due to lack of fuel-filling ability. Don't want the hassle or anxiety about refilling here or when away somewhere else to come home.
Went out to shop and try for fuel, but the queues here were just silly and they were blocking the entrances to the nearest Sainsburys and Morrisons (plus the Aldi next door). Ended up shopping in an M&S Food on a retail park, as I couldn't face trying another queue for Tesco.
Darned annoying really as we were looking forward to it and the weather forecast doesn't look too bad.
I see availability is up enormously at a few popular sites this weekend and onward ... good for those with fuel in the tank.
NB I thought the Club have repeated ruled out taking site booking deposits? (Or have I missed some announcement hidden in the tiny font they print the magazine in?)

Currently touring and have had no problem getting fuel this past week. Today filled up with diesel after a short wait. Most garages I passed today had fuel. Not at every pump but they had some. Diesel seems easier to come by. It can only get better.

Just made the journey from Hampshire to Cornwall and surprised how easy it was to get fuel. About half the stations we saw in Hampshire/East Dorset were closed, the rest with some queues. However, beyond that in West Dorset, Devon & Cornwall they were all open with very little or no queues. Even my local garage which manages to run out of fuel on a regular basis without the help of supply chain problems has some! Maybe your trip to Cornwall might be easier than the media would have you believe?

If everybody topped up their tanks last Thursday or Friday, most people won't have gone far enough since to need any more yet. I'd to hunt around a bit last Friday evening to get enough to fill my commuter car for the week end, but fore courts seem to be nearing 'normal' already

Not true. On the right tariff you can charge in the early hours of the morning at a third of the normal unit costs. Not many people use a lot of power at 2.00 am in the morning. It is a very efficient use of the generation and distribution system.

Glad that's the case, SB, as we are now down in S. Cornwall. We only past a couple of garages on the way down and one only had the petrol price showing on their illuminated sign, but as we still have half a tank full of diesel we're hoping to get filled up before the weekend.

You’ll be ok in S Cornwall, wife filled up at Tesco in St Austell last evening and was the only person there. Added bonus is the big exodus is underway, after weeks of mayhem the crowds seem largely to have gone to join a fuel queue in the home counties!

Luckily Nellie, loads of service stations close by where you are. Morrisons, Tesco and Sainsbury’s all on outskirts of Penzance.👍

We've just completed 3 week tour of Dumfries and Galloway. Topped up at Castle Douglas but only allowed 15 litres. Stopped again on M6 services: no queus, but diesel £1.69/l, not the £1.39/l displayed on the big sign! £40 maximum. On Kendal CCC site which is still nearly fully booked.

OH has just been out around us. Topped up with no issues and no queuing. That’s diesel, at the usual price.

As it happens we filled up at Morrisons in Redruth/Camborne this morning. Just drove up straight to a pump. Thanks SB and tda. It was at £1:37.9 pl

Also, 1.36 at our local Tesco today. I needed fuel Tuesday though and had to pay 1.47 at the BP garage nearby. BP now in my little book.

We're off to Hawes CC site tomorrow: not far so fuel not an immediate problem. Beyond that fingers crossed!

CnC I’m in East Yorkshire & both the Asda & Shell fuel stations 7miles from me have plenty of fuel & have had no queuing at all over the panic period👍🏻

I’ve no idea Muscles we(East Yorks) get our signal from Emley Moor Huddersfield way, I think Bilsdale services Nth Yorks & the Tees area🤷🏻♂️. It’s not such a big deal these day with satellite TV & online streaming providers via B/Band👍🏻

We got caught in this madness this week. I'd been touring E Anglia and had hoped by the time we left the CL we were on it would have calmed down. As it was I had insufficient fuel to get home. I spent half a morning in a queue in order to replenish my tank. Prudence dictated that I abbreviate my tour and we returned home late yesterday. Navigating almost half of the M25, I noticed the gantries advising no fuel at any of the service areas between South Mimms and Cobham. It was a bit nerve racking as we didn't have the option to sit it out on a site as medical and dental appointments loom on Monday.

Decided to "fill up" yesterday so that we'd have enough fuel for our journey home from Gower and for the week to come. No queues, Diesel @£1.419 per litre and a maximum of £30. Which always strikes me as self defeating. Setting a maximum surely encourages folk to buy little and often. Make it a minimum of £30 and they're more likely to wait until they need to fill up. Or have I got that all wrong?

Unfortunately M there are those that do not have much cash but do need to get about for work purposes so only buy the maximum that they can afford, which may well be less than £30, so a minimum tariff of that amount would penalise them.

We returned from the I of W on Monday.On the island there was evidence of some panic buying with queues at all fuel points.We had a nearly full tank,having filled up before all of this blew up so we crossed to the mainland without refuelling.When we got to Cherwell Services we stopped for a rest and fuel was readily available albeit at £1.65 per litre.Back home to Yorkshire with 3/4 tank left ,
Went for our flu jabs this am and both of our local garages had fuel with no queues, so I refilled our runabout with petrol at normal pump prices.
I am a bit surprised by the news reports from the BBC of "panic at the pumps" etcetera.Not nearly as bad as reported from what we saw on a journey North..Yet more BBC hyperbole in support of the BBC "hidden agenda"?
No intention of cancelling future jaunts because of their misrepresentation of the true situation.
