Certainly was four years ago when we were there. We stayed in Burgos the previous night and got permission to stay there until early afternoon so that we didn't arrive too early in Bilbao.

The arrangements previous years were that you could check in between 1600 and 1900 if you wished to stay overnight in the port area before taking the 1030 boat - but if you phone Brittany Ferries they will tell you whether these arrangements have changed.

Have a look here. There's a picture of many folks camped on dockside.

Check-in used to start at 4pm. It's well organised. Santander isn't so easy.

    When's the crossing?

    There's another post here...

Sorry David I obviously did not make myself clear. We stayed in Burgos the night before we stayed at the port overnight and stayed there long enough not to arrive before the 4pm opening. The man was on the check in from 4 to 7pm.

A point worthy of mention is that if you arrive after 19.00 hours - the barrier is shut and you have to park up on the approach road leading to the check in desks and then into the big carpark / holding area.  It is easy to walk around the barrier and use the toilets etc in the main holding area which remained open throughout the night but come 07,00 hours when check in opened you had to be up and ready to check in and complete the formalities and to then enter the big holding car park and await boarding instructions.

This was how it was when we did the journey back in October 2019.

    Hope this helps

Bon voyage. There’s nothing nasty in the shipping forecast .
