Warm home discount scheme
Are you aware of this scheme?
It is a scheme to help people with their gas and electric bills and is available to people on a relatively low income.
The basic scheme rules are that if you or your partner receive Pension Credit (the Guarantee Credit part) then you will qualify. However each energy provider extends this to cover people on other benefits (including some disability benefits) or maybe below a certain income level - they are all different.
If you qualify, your energy supplier will credit £140/year to your energy bill.
Do a search for 'warm home discount scheme' on your supplier's web site.
Applying is simple - you just ring the phone number provided and give details of the relevant benefit that you or your partner receive.

Old thread resurrection I know.....
It is a rather weird scheme and it is entirely up to the energy supplier, who might qualify and who might not. Eligibility is dependent on being eligible on a certain prior date in a year. All you can do is apply and hope, but it could then be months before you know whether you get it or not. Even if you qualify, there is certainly no guarantee you will get it. Each supplier has so many WHD's to give away, when they are gone they are gone. So it's a bit of a lottery, whether you will or will not get it.
Having said that, only the larger energy suppliers are part of the scheme and the larger suppliers are generally more expensive anyway. You might less, taking into account the WHD, choosing one of the less expensive, smaller suppliers anyway.

I just wonder how many people that can afford our hobby, even in its most basic form, would qualify for this discount? It might help if you know people who might qualify for it.
At the moment it could be questionable whether its sensible to swap energy suppliers as so many of them seem to be in trouble.

David I'm sure you're right on qualifying and changing at the moment.
This is a very old thread - 2015. I believe the scheme is long finished. There was another more recent, well presented Covid I sort of recall I don't know details, that's been pulled. We had cold calls about it. That was even more strange. Not that we'd qualify anyway.

DK it is for low income families so I doubt we would qualify.
B2 it is still around 2021/22👍🏻

It was some years ago ,but we had our house insulated with cavity wall insulation and loft given an extra layer of fibreglass insulation, by our then energy company i think it is now EON ,at no cost to us ,it was just via a phone call and that included lifting and replacing the loft boarding
