    I suppose in a way the system should be fairer for all. Forcing the networks to allow use of your allowances in the EU, just made them look for other ways to make up the deficit, therefore everyone paid, rather than just those who use there phones abroad.

    I presume people are locked into contracts and fixed sims but as someone has mentioned you can buy a cheap sim when away.

    We've never had contracts so this is perhaps a downside? Not all companies are adding these charges either. The ones that don't may gain a few new users.

    Have a look at web sites which help you to avoid roaming charges.

    Do we all have holidays or do some of us have lifestyles? Holidays as ‘occasions’ is very old school.

    As you say Bill, we spend two thirds of a normal year away from home so, perhaps a 'holiday' is what we have when we are back here?

    Neither me nor Fliss have a phone contract. They are simply not used to make enough frequent calls to justify. We use a small mobile router. Never needed constant internet access abroad as such a holiday has been a series of 2 week stays and out early, back about 5pm, a sit down and a drink before going out for a meal most nights at around 7pm. I have, in the past, used an internet cafe a couple of times but I doubt their existence now

    Not so much internet cafes but making use of free Wi-Fi in a variety of venues helps.

    You're not domiciled, so you are either working or visiting elsewhere. Are you hoping to pay taxes too. wink

    For me its not about being able to afford the extra £60 a month (I can) its more do I want to, NO I don't. 

    In the UK do I want to pay £30+ a night for  camc campsite with what could be unpredictable weather NO I don't.

    Am I prepared to pay £220 for a return tunnel crossing, YES.

    Do I have to pay for breakdown cover NO I don't  as its covered by my bank, just the same as my holiday insurance is.

    Fuel is no different to touring round Britain, food the same. Campsites are far cheaper over here.

    So on balance taking a holiday over here works out cheaper than taking a holiday in the UK. The cost of the tunnel is recovered from the cost of the campsites.  The longer I stay the cheaper the holiday becomes.

    Paying an extra £60 for the use of my data, which I have already paid for and not getting the 30gb only 12 gb,  is something I'm  just not prepared to do. 

    Now some my well think its worth it I personally  do not,  if they want to pay for it, then that's  ok that's  their choice. 

    As I  said I  will look at all the options open to me once I  return from this holiday. Today I'm on a campsite with very good FREE wifi smile

    I don’t think you have already paid for it, TG. What you have paid for is x amount of data from your UK provider, not using data via the Euro network you’re now connected to.

    Still, no point in getting hung up about it as we all make choices of our own. I don’t think a lot of things are worth the money charged but, ultimately, it’s a case of they've got it and if we want it badly enough, we pay up.

    Easy you sound like you wouldn’t go on holiday if you had to struggle money wise. Or if you have had to struggle have you denied yourself a holiday?

    I have paid a monthly fee for x amount of data, I expect to get that data.

    yes and if you currently have a contract that will be honoured but any new contract won't.

    And you would in the UK but you’re using someone else's service overseas and the reciprocal agreement has ended. 

    I understand your feelings but the phone companies see it differently. Like it or not, we all have to live with that decision. I’m just grateful for the time the agreement existed👍🏻
