Taking a dog by car to Spain in 2022
Hi everyone! Looking for some help please. We have booked to take our van to a CAMC promoted winter sun site in Feb 2022 in southern Spain. We are taking our dog with us. There is lots of info on the internet about the changes from the animal passport to AHC following Brexit but the information I’ve read says we must cross from France to Spain through a Travellers Point of Entry. None of the research I’ve done identifies any TPE’s on the French/Spanish border. CAMC have been unable to help and suggested calling the Spanish Embassy which I’ve tried but they don’t answer the phone. We’d really like to be able to start planning a route from Calais to the Costa Blanca and get some overnight stops booked but are currently unable to move forward without information about the correct border crossing points when travelling with a dog. Can anyone out there offer any advice or experiences on this please? Thanks in advance!

Your animal health certificate will be checked when you travel from UK to France. Your passport will be stamped at that point too and there may be a customs check too. You are then in the European Union.and can travel freely in that area. So there will be no further checks when you drive from France into Spain on any road route you choose.

PS . Would this enquiry be better in the overseas section instead of in UK sites and touring?

I'm sure you are on it but check with your vet no blood tests needed for Rabies. I understand getting the results can take a while. There are some vets who won't be doing the AHC so its worth checking and getting an appointment booked.

Yes! But I couldn’t see a section for this and I haven’t used the discussion page before! I didn’t find it very easy to use to be honest!
Have you travelled with a dog since Brexit? Your comment makes sense but having read a lot of articles online, it just seemed as though we would be required to get the dog checked in in Spain independently of France. If we don’t have to do this it would be much more straightforward!

Driving from France into Spain is like driving from Essex into Suffolk. There are no controls or checks - none for you and none for your dog.

Thank you! That makes a lot of sense. Why don’t the CAMC know this? They told me to ring the Spanish Embassy ☹️

Happy to help. The only thing I would add is that if there is an acute flare up of Covid infections by the time you hope to travel in February then borders might not be as open as they are now. Buy good travel insurance. Good luck.

Hello and welcome.
Not to worry about posting in the wrong section, you're not alone many post in stories, as the site isn't easy to use not to mention slow! That said maybe a mod will move the thread, but then you have to find it again 🤣.
Can't really help on your request except to say there is a thread somewhere on current arrangements for pets/dogs but I've not found it again myself. Search function on here not good but Google can be a great help if you add club to your question. I'll try to find it later but got things that must be achieved 😱 meanwhile. However this thread HERE maybe of assistance as its by folks away at present.
Enjoy the planning and be prepared for everything and I echo good insurance.
Edit think I might have found it 🙂 HERE
