Is my Spanish trip realistic?

I am planning our first overseas motorhome trip to Spain to get some Winter warmth and would welcome any advice as to whether the distances I plan between sites are practical given the state of the roads and traffic issues in February!

Arrive Santander 8:00am, drive to Ariztigain site (CMC ref:E40) for 1 night. Next day drive to Pena Montanesa (E12) to stay 4 nights. Then on to Bonterra (E19) to stay 4 nights. The next leg is from Bonterra to Monte Holiday (E04) to stay 4 nights. After that, I plan to drive to De Haro  (E02) to stay another 4 nights, and then finally from De Haro to travel to El Molina de Cabuerniga (E28) for 1 night prior to getting the ferry the next day (afternoon departure).

I plan to get between the sites during one reasonable day's driving, but I'm not sure that this is realistic, being unfamiliar with the roads, speed limits and so on. My vehicle is a Dethleffs Pulse with a decent 180hp engine, so I can do good speeds where conditions permit.

Grateful for any comments or suggestions.

Hi Deleted User User - thanks for your positive reply - it sounds like I need not worry too much about the distances.

As David says, it wont be a problem.

just to put our usual winter 'dash' to Benicassim against your trip...

you are taking three days to get from Santander to Bonterra Park.

We take the ferry from Poole to Cherbourg (£140 ish), arrive 14:00 and then drive to Nantes or thereabouts...just find a convenient aire to overnight...

next morning, trundle down to Irun and park on the aire there....

third day, from Irun to Benicassim in one day, about 7 hrs on one of the best free dual carriageways in Spain.

we would be doing 577km in those 7 hrs.

Santander to Benicasim is 724km so less than 100 miles in it and you have two extra days....piece of cake.

take your time, enjoy the stops, try and see some of the cities on your loop tour.

    have a great time.

WTG, the numbers are the Club site references within the Winter Sun brochure.

obviously, the OP has used the Club book and picked out some sites to make a tour...

we 'old hands' of course will be steering our own course and not just sticking with the (very few) Club offerings... nice though they are, any can be booked without the club being involved.

like you, i thought for 18 days holiday there were too many stops and too much driving....with only 18 days id be putting my feet up somewhere in the sun, and as BF is the furthest south on this tour, id be heading (and staying) there.

having said that, on our last loooong tour down to Portugal, on the way home we did make many 1/2/3 night impromptu stops at seaside villages, BUT we did have the balance of 90 odd days to rest feet at a few places too.

Hi BB hope you are well.

What route do you take from Irun?  We came through the day before yesterday across to Tarragona via Pamplona and Zaragoza and had to pay some tolls?

Thanks to Another David, Bolero Boy and Deleted User - you have given us lots to think about. We'll be making some changes to the route especially as regards the mountainous part!

By the way, the letters are the Club's references for each of the sites as shown on the maps in the CMC brochure for European trips

Hi  Michael, all well thanks...hopefully back in Spain early January...hope you're having a great trip.

from Irun we take the N-121-A to Pamplona, then (to travel non toll) this becomes the N-121 and then the A-68 parallel to the (toll) AP-68 to Zaragoza and the A-23 down to the coast.

a really easy and scenic drive, rarely snow due to the shallower, western Pyrenees crossing.

OK cheers, looks like sat navigation took us on AP Road.  Must admit the scenery was truly awful so far but I guess you come here for the sun not pretty hedgerows 😁
