Croatia is our next adventure
Hello folks, my sister and I, with our 2 Leonberger girls are heading to Croatia in around 10 days time. We spent 4 months touring Spain, returning April when UK sites reopened, having had vaccinations and caught up with family and friends, we are now ready to head off again. We have caravan and VW transporter. So excited. We'll be taking the route from Calais, thru Germany, Austria etc. Looking for 2 sites on route for 1 night stop overs. Any recommendations appreciated.
Thanks 😊

Entry to Austria from UK is currently forbidden under Austrian law.

You dont mention which way you intend to cross Austria, but if using the Fern Pass, I would recommend Camping Hopfensee near Fussen. From there it's easy to get into Italy and via Trieste to Croatia, or if you're going via Munich (A8, A10) there's a good overnight stop at Lech Camping just off the A8 (junction 73) Both of these I have used as second night stops. Sadly, my first night stop - Prumtal Camping - in North Western Germany has been hit by the recent floods and is currently closed. It's location is superb, being only 20 minutes from Luxembourg and very, very cheap diesel. Wishing you a safe and wonderful trip

Hello David, you where recommended to us by a fellow member we met recently on Stonefield Farm CL site and he was right. Thanks so much for such a detailed reply. Lots of help. Thanks

David, I was impressed with Lech Camping as an overnight stop - easy to find from the A8 and although restaurant is not up to Prumtal’s standards, it’s perfectly acceptable. Across the road is a supermarket should you need supplies and there’s a fuel station just a few hundred yards further past the site for cheaper fuel than A8. Showers were very powerful too.
I found Italy busy and expensive too (especially around Garda) but it was easy to get into Croatia that way and it’s incredible how the heart rate slows as soon as you enter the country 😀

Back in the day, as they say, we had a toll-free route for crossing Slovenia from Italy to Croatia. We started a 'discussion', Our route into Croatia . It may be a bit dated, but I'm sure that the route is still usable.
