I note the card information shown does not give an expiry date. Does this mean that one needs to be a member to start a stay on a site but it does not matter if it expires during the stay? How will the warden know to charge the non-member rate for the appropriate days?

From the time (yes just once) I forgot my card as I was on my own and Mrs C always carries them, the wardens just asked me to confirm a few details and they said it was fine, She looked at the screen so I assume they can check your details online.

It's a pity that a photograph is not incorporated in the membership which would show up on the screen at reception and we wouldn't need Apps or Cards?

Actually I forgot but she did ask to see some photo ID as well.

Thanks Rowena, a useful addition to the App!

"Exciting news".....a bit of hyperbole there!! Interesting or helpful but certainly not exciting. It will of course only be of any use to those that have a smart phone and have downloaded the club's app, so not a lot of use to many members.

Or send and receive emails, or log in to this site and make comments to other readers as you argue into the samall hours of the morning. You might even become so engrossed that you spend hours on it with fingers flicking all over the screen as you become a total bore to those on holdiday with you.

I certainly welcome it. Although it’s a shame it’s just part of the App and can’t be downloaded to my wallet on the iPhone, as you can with some others. I have noticed this with a few service providers. Presumably to try and get folk into looking at and using their App.

Hi Navigateur, The Digital Membership Card currently only has a 'Valid as of' date and does not display the membership start or end date, instead it checks you have a valid membership at the time of opening the card. This is the first release of the Digital Membership Card and the next release will include your membership start and end date. This is due in 2022. In the meantime, Site Staff are able to see membership details on the system.

Thank you,Rowena, for the additional information. I note that the electronic card is "in the app", which means that to display it on my tablet I need Internet access. Possibly not a problem at Reception on Club Sites, but could involve much time wasting trying to get into an attraction, or be impossible on the field of a CL out in the country.

I was pleased to see that the Club has released an app for booking sites rather than relying on the website, which must be powered by steam, it’s so slow! However, I tried a search for a CL in the area where one of my favourite CL’s is located. Unfortunately for the site owner (maybe fortunately for me), the site doesn’t appear in the app. I checked back with the website (yawn while I wait for it to respond) to make sure the CL is still open and it is definitely listed. Surely, the app accesses the same database of sites as the website so why doesn’t it appear?

Sorry if I’m insulting your intelligence, but have you updated to the latest version of the app?

"impossible on the field of a CL out in the country."
Have just spent 4 weeks touring England , staying on several Cls up and down the country. had no problem getting 4g signals on my phone.
I found that smoke signals tended to be a bit slow and if the wind was in the wrong direction - disastrous.
Long live the Luddites like me though!

no problem getting 4g signals on my phone.
I never get any signals on my tablet, apart from wifi. My phone is a speaking phone that does not "do" applications.

Unfortunately it is of no use to many members OH who usually do the checking in at reception ( my OH has just accused the club of discrimination )...and as already said...pity it is not available to put in the 'wallet'. Who are these members that have 'inspired' the club...

I take it you mean it only seems to show the lead cardholder. I agree, not sure why they can’t show the second card name as well. Perhaps that will be in the later update.
Hopefully the later update will also run offline. This version that checks if you are a member on the day of visit would not work at Clumber, there is no 4G. So unless you are paid up for the club Wi-fi it’s the hard copy version only.

If the COVID App is anything to go by it will be a lot quicker just to show your membership rather than fire up your phone?

But here isn't representative of the club's membership, whatever those that post on here think. There are very many who use basic phones and are not up to date with all the latest gizzmos.

Which is more than the club has........

As far as I can see the app is way behind with regard to which CLs are open or not.

I’ve no idea on the proportion of membership with smart phones but I would not be surprised if it was a significant majority.
However, does it really matter, it’s there for those who want to use it. For those who don’t there is still the card. Of all the cards I have, I can’t think of one that has discontinued the hard copy when they introduced an electronic version. I therefore don’t think they are likely to phase it out.

It is now just a matter of time until there will be a charge for being issued a plastic card - though it will be marketed as a "discount" in the same way as going paperless has been. Remember you read it here first.
I think quite a few members (both on here and not) would have preferred the money and IT effort being applied to the small change required to make booking hard-standing v. grass available.
