I do wonder who these legions of folks are without access to modern communications? It can't be an age thing. I am 10 days away from my 75th birthday and I have used modern technology as long as it has been available. I think in many cases it is a lack of understanding of the benefits that smart phones/computers bring to life. About 5/6 years ago I got Margaret a smart phone for her birthday despite protestations that she was more than happy with her small Nokia 6200, you would struggle to get it away from her now!!!

It's not "lack of access to modern communications", at least in my case, David.  The screens on mobile telephones are just too small for my engineer's fat fingers, so I use a tablet for the IT stuff and a perfectly adequate old cellular telephone for voice communications.

I'm just not with the idea of buying a new cellular telephone every 18 months.

Try a stylus, Nav. They’re ideal for those of us with fat finger syndrome and only cost pence👍🏻

Why would you expect to buy a new mobi every 18 months?🤷🏻‍♂️

The membership card won't display correctly on my phone, I can see membership number and valid from but not the actual number or date 🤔 I will stay with the plastic version.. At the moment I go into reception armed with my wallet which contains payment and membership cards.. If I could use the digital card I would need to take both my wallet and my phone so its a pointless development in my opinion..

ED..read next post from SteveL.  Perhaps I should have explained better..I was of course referring to my (and OH) dismay at the app not including spouse/partner/second card holder.

OH always checks in at reception offering both cards...never been asked to present myself in person to prove the card...so will be interesting tomorrow when we (or rather OH) check in producing my iPhone.

And of course as OH thumb print is one of two authorised 'Touch ID' on my phone (in case I get hit by a bus !!), staff couldn't really argue against...

You need to be able to download the latest version of the App which is only available with the latest smart phone updates. An Apple phone needs to be 6s and later.

Perhaps the CC will start taking Apple pay or the Android equivalent, then you will just need your smart phone.

Ditto..We are both in our 79th year and virtually everything in our house is computerised in some way... from the humble door bell, through security, lighting (ext & Int ) heating even the blinds in the dining room are remotely controlled as is the garage door/drive lighting.

Like yourself, I have been using computers since they became available...my first in 1980 was one of the very first Apple models..with see through casing along the top...pre mouse and pre commercially available software..you had to write your own !!..So I taught myself 'basic' and from there the rest is history...which is why I suppose I am frustrated with the 'basic' addition to the club app..

The iPhone 6s which Davet54 says is the minimum required to run it was released in September 2015, so you don’t need the latest phone, unless that’s what you want. Recently replaced the OH’s iphone at 7 years old and then only because it was falling apart. However, it does mean she can get the digital card, even if it does have my name on it.🤔

I think you miss the point of my post which was not aimed at people like yourself who do embrace modern technology but by different means. Almost everything that is available on a smart phone is, of course available on your tablet. No need to replace phones every 18 months if you chose wisely in the first place!!! I am meaning the suggestion that older people who won't engage in any type of new technology. Having said that for those of us without "engineering fingers" I think we should all do our bit to encourage the use of smart phones as so much can be done on themwink

The people who are older than I am that I meet, although there are getting to be fewer and fewer of them of late, do all seem to have much newer cell phones than I do - perhaps because they have only acquired them recently.

Why would you expect to buy a new mobi every 18 months?🤷🏻‍♂️  Because that seems to be what everyone is doing.  Does mean I can up-cycle my girlfriend's old phones into a dedicated rear view camera screen, doorbell camera monitor, etc.

I have one that’s why I know they are to smart for me. And you still get unwanted calls same as from a landline. Block them and they call from another number.

Have got the membership card on the app. Can't easily get OH on her phone yet. Not that there is much point as I always check in and pay on my card.

Unsure if it will be worthwhile as I now have to remember after several hours of towing to take the phone with me, open the app, then take my wallet out of my pocket that has my credit card and physical membership card in it both easily accessible .

Seems like typical 'technology' a tool for something that is not actually needed.

Our card renews in January, when we are not away for more than an odd day. However, the system might help others whose renewal is later in the year and are away on tour when the new card pops through the letter box.

but if you were away and your new cards were on the mat behind your front door, I'm pretty sure you'd not be turned away from a site when you presented your old out of date cards. The wardens would be able to see whether you're still a member using the membership number.

In fact, I'm pretty sure I've presented an out of date card before now when I've just not got around to putting the new card in my wallet

It would be great to lift the weight from purses and wallets by having everything on the phone but until we get phones that charge themselves it's a belt and braces approach for me.

In simple terms, how do you do that then? If you're looking at the screen then the lens is facing forward.

The repurposed cellphone does not contain a SIM card, but the wifi is still working.  So I spent £15 on a wifi camera from eBay and fixed it on the back of the caravan. Press right buttons on old phone to connect to that wifi and the free application displays the image.

Could do it with an in-use cell-phone as well, of course.

I was asked to leave feed back on our recent stay at a club site and to tick a box if on booking in I had been asked to see my membership card or not and if did was it the digital version I did explain that why would fumble around for my phone when I pay by debit card and also in my wallet is my membership card ?

Some might be using their phones to pay?

We're on the edge of mixed technology at the moment...one small leap at a time! wink

I am a joint member with my wife .I can and do log in with my own email and own password .

I have my own cardboard membership card cwith my name on it and our joint membership number .

When I opened the app on my smart phone it only shows my wifes name on the digital membership card .Is this correct ?

I got an email from the  club stating they have added my email and my name can be seen on the digital card only it doesnt .

The guy I spoke to at the club could not resolve the issue and I am waiting for an email reply response from The person at the club who made the statement in the email .Anyone else had this issue .

The Club seem only to address any communication to the lead member. I am lead member but probably only because that was the accepted way of doing things all those years ago before joint/family membership was introduced. Given this is a new departure, perhaps given the feedback, the Club might address it with any future upgrade to the App?

It does seem odd they didn’t think to put both names on the digital card from the outset. It would have been so easy to do. Not everyone is going to bother with two logins.

I do't think it is odd, I have never yet had to show both cards at check in.My card has always been accepted for the two of us.

My OH usually checks in and the same is true. However, both members may not always be present. If I was away on my own, I would hardly present my wife’s card at check in.
