i think the pont is that, without deposits and no penalty last minute cancellations, it is possible to 'book' multiple forward slots for particularly popular sites as soon as dates are released.

I have only made one 'truly' speculative booking and that was for the Bowness site in what turned out to be its last year as CC.

In January that year I noticed a 5 day booking availability at end of August. We had not planned our 3rd trip for that year (nor the second tour). Plenty of time to cancel as we would plan our trip end of May.

Others have said it all, PD. We hope to go irrespective of whether we pay a deposit but if paying such a deposit will ensure good health and no mechanical failure, I'm all for it.

Do you know, in all our years of touring, on both club's sites (and others) we had many, many conversations with fellow guests. But they were about places we'd visited, sites we'd stayed on, things we'd seen, pubs/restaurants nearby that we'd used, even our dogs and their various back stories. But not once did we ever get to discuss deposits, block booking, late cancellations etc etc.

How we must have missed out! Funny old world, ain't it? wink

    Of course they have! undecided

Seems a very odd topic of conversation to me, surely so many more interesting things to chat about - like how much better absolutely everything is "over there" perhaps! laughing

If, and I emphasise "if", there are speculative bookings, I suspect it would most likely be the relatively local favourite spot for a weekend break where all the weekends are booked but perhaps only a proportion of them are taken up as the individual's circumstances or the weather forecast dictate nearer the time and the knowledge that they won't actually go away every weekend.
