Breakdown cover in France, while still in amber

Hi,

Apologies if this has already been covered in a previous post.
I just wondered if anyone could offer any recommendations for European breakdown/accident cover for France while the country is still amber. I have been advised by Red Pennant I will not be covered in France due to the amber grouping.
I have tried a few more companies with the same response.
Many thanks

    As far as I know…

Breakdown cover from companies such as Green Flag, RAC, Eurobreakdown, Saga and so on is effective regardless of amber colour

Health and medical travel insurance from companies such as Staysure, Avanti and so on is also effective regardless of amber colour.

The Green Flag policy document is clear. Maximum caravan length of 7 metres excluding any coupling  device and tow bar, and maximum caravan width 2.3 metres.  If you are interested in another company you would need to study their policy document too.

Lucky you, I have jumped through this hoop before and was told this

    "

First off, the largest recovery vehicle that most breakdown services use on a private car policy is a 7500Kg truck, which would struggle to carry a caravan longer than 7 metres due to the length of the truck bed being 7 metres long max, to comply with their construction regs.

Another factor is that any 7500Kg truck towing a trailer (caravan/boat/goods trailer)is then classed as a LGV 2 lorry, requiring the driver to be qualified to that level. Ie HGV/LGV class 2 license

    "

others will tell another story, but i could only find RP who would guarantee to recover within the EU anything greater than 7m (which includes the towing hitch)

Hi, The insurance included with a Nationwide Flex Plus account is effective unless HMG advice is against “all travel”.

The Nationwide Flexplus breakdown cover (provided by Britannia) specifes an overall length limit of 8 metres:

"any vehicle registered in the UK, being driven by or carrying the Nationwide FlexPlus account holder(s) or a vehicle registered in the UK and owned and registered to the account holder(s), which is being used with the permission of the account holder(s) and does not exceed any of the following dimensions when fully loaded:
    - Caravans and trailers - 8 metres in length (including A-frame)."

I believe the 7 metre limit is taken from construction and use regulations and in that case excludes the A frame. However, it seems to have just been copied across by many insurers with no thought being applied.
