Staycation fever is highly infectious. It’s especially bad this year, but you’re absolutely right about social distancing. Attitude of many seems to be ‘what pandemic?’.

It’s bad now, but I dread to think what the school holiday period will bring. On the plus side, traders are having a bumper year, so maybe the more mature and economically inactive amongst us should be more tolerant - grin and bear it, winter is coming, the best time to enjoy Cornwall.

I know it. Good choice. We stayed there many years ago when it was under previous ownership. Incredibly remote yet convenient for everywhere as long as you use back lanes and avoid the Truro traffic. I think it’s still AO.

Yup really loved it and new owner spent a lot of money revamping the place, most of those very large trees have gone so that pitches are not shaded etc, planted new hedges to make some pitches more private and could not fault the covid measures in place, hand sanitisers and surface cleaners everwhere and with only 17 pitches no people pressure.

Traveling around not a problem, just parking in some places a nightmare and of course lots of people in places such as Peranporth which made it a little bit uncomfortable from a covid aspect, but we are just going to have to live with this and put our faith in the vaccine.

Killiwerris sounds a lovely site Rufs.  I wish we had found that one!  It’s good here at Merrose but we only use our own facilities, so no people pressure for us.  I have been told the queue for the one toilet block is often quite long, I’m surprised so many are using them but it appears they are.  Like you say finding less busy places is difficult because of the make up of Cornwall (which is why we love it) but sadly, this year, it’s making me anxious seeing so many crowded places.  I would love to get to our favourites, Kynance, Mullion etc and also with my walking restrictions (need a new hip) I can’t use the quieter footpaths.  OH has done a few walks and they haven’t been too bad for people apparently.   I suppose I have yet to put my faith in the vaccine!!

While I can understand your anxiety, if it changes nothing what would be the point of the vaccine and all those site Covid measures? Yes, enjoy yourself and have faith. We’re never going to be living without Covid so getting used to balancing risk is the new normal.

Merrose is in a lovely part of Cornwall, be sure to explore the coastal stretch between Mevagissey and Portscatho - crowds there never reach  the proportions of the tourist hotspots. The Roseland Inn, just up the road from you at Philleagh is a delightful little pub with excellent food -  narrow lanes come as standard! If you’ve got time be sure to visit the church at St Just in Roseland - one of the nicest settings anywhere.

Thank you SeasideBill.  We only found the Roseland Inn yesterday and had a gorgeous lunch (outside, as is my preference!) so we agree with your recommendation.  It was so nice we have booked again for Wednesday evening.  Been to St Just church, it’s a regular for us as my forebears come from this part of Cornwall, here and Portloe.

Just having a leisurely late lunch at Meathop Club site and having a chat with the motorhomers on the next pitch. They’re saying that they are having to amend their travel plans, as people from Manchester and Salford are now banned from entering Scotland😱.

    Whatever next.....

    🙂

How can she stop them from going to Manchester. I am sure Andy Burnham  will welcome them.

She didn't seem that bothered about the thousands of Scottish fans descending on London the other night and considering that Scotland has one of the highest infection rates in Europe it does rather smack of hypocrisy. She has in the past given England Gov some stick when short deadlines of restrictions have been announced but doesn't seem bothered about doing the same.

Not a political post as I'm not likely to be going to either. As rates here in Wales lower than Scotland I wonder if Mark Drakeford should maybe ban Scottish visitors?undecidedlaughing

The lack of Scotland fans i London yesterday was, so I am led to believe, due to a train strike due to take effect today hence the hasty retreat for many. We all know that asking people not to do something doesn't always have the desired effect during this pandemic.

Hope you don't think I'm advocating a Police State AD.undecided

How can allowing 3 x 60,000 football fans into London for the semis and final make sense .Add on 2500 so called VIP's from amber and red countries with no quarantine and we can see disaster. Makes a mockery of us that have kept and abided by the rules these long months.

who can say,  maybe have to be content with a month in Devon in September, but if all else fails we have our lovely family beach house here on the Solent, so not fussed if things do not pan out as planned. laughingFingers crosed for next year   laughing, beautiful day today did swim in the Solent, not quite the Med, but as the Med is one of the most polluted seas in the world, the Solent is just fine laughing

Totally agree, Fish.  But my guess is that the rules that we’ve all being keeping to, will be “tweaked”  just in time to allow all the VIPs etc to enter the UK quarantine free. Then, of course, the previous restrictions will be reintroduced for the rest of us, after the tournament.

    Not good 😱

Worrying.  The more infections there are about the greater the chance of new variants.

I wonder if that extends to returning German football fans, logically it should?

Yes i saw that also but thought i would use the Sun headlines just to give that "somebody" who needs to get out more, something to jump up and down about. undecided

But it doesnt detract from the fact that the government does seem to be making some crazy decisions when it comes to managing covid and our impending release from restrictions, but i am happy to stay put for a while, in our area cases of Covid are very low, and after all the sun is shining. laughing
