CL's pricing themselves as sites?
It's a while since I used a CL, and really I just searched for one around Alnwick as I needed a water topup, and thought a cheap CL would be the ideal place to do that. Except I can't find a single one under £15.
That's almost campsite fee. I must have missed the news, do CL's just charge what they like now and are there any other options to simply get fresh water fill?

So the cost of overnight parking somewhere to dump black and grey waste and rubbish plus get fresh water doesn't warrant £15 towards the cost of set up and running for the owner?
Would you supply it for this fee or less? Club sites are considerably more.
As you only mention fresh water I wonder where you park up and dispose of your various waste products?
I do hope you are not the sort that gets motorhomers a bad name!

GF, it depends what you are looking for👍🏻. I’d personally pay way more than that for what I want. Some will pay a premium for the lack of ‘holiday camp’ atmosphere. The folk who seek out & use CL’s are generally peace & tranquility seekers. The ASMR of CL’s generally can’t be found elsewhere IMO.

They are independent entities and can set there own fees. However, if you are comparing it with most CAMC campsites, one of those will cost you £20 currently as a solo, £28 for two. Unless it’s a non facility where it would come down to £16 or £12.50 non EHU. £15 seems reasonable, as presumably you will also want to empty your cassette / waste water and dump rubbish, all of which carries a cost to the owner.

Don't know what the OP is complaining about - most of the CLs / CS's we stay on charge £17/18 pn. and we are more than happy to pay that - and some put their prices up to £20 pn in winter, given the increasing cost of electricity, which I also think is both reasonable and understandable. Given that we will be paying £35 pn. at Sandringham CAMC site over Christmas, I think he's a bit out of touch with reality!

It is time it seems that many older and on the cheap members start to think modern prices and what modern costs are these days
As mentioned before we have noted what Four couples ,all non members think of club prices and that on top of the hire of motor caravans
They were very impressed ant the restricted facilities at a very popular club site which cost them £42per night including the £13 non members extra
So those looking with rose tinted glasses at past prices will need to come to think modern prices and cost to run Sites and CLs

Alnwick Rugby Club £10 a night. Not a CL. Open to all.

I did not say it was reasonable ,but if non members are quite willing to pay those prices (check Hillhead) it seems that those on the outside, think differently to what some members ,consider when looking at prices
I was reading an article about staycations, and a site in Wales was fully booked this year with it seems just the views in glamping tents that start at £100per night off peak for four and £150per night in peak times

You might need to look at it from the CL owners point of view. Even if a £15 a night CL was open and full every night of the year I have calculated the income would only be around £27000 a year. Deduct from that the costs of electricity (if provided) deduct from that the cost of emptying waste, probably not on mains sewerage, deduct from that costs of site maintenance and insurance I wonder how much of that £27000 is actually left. The reality is of course that the CL won't be full every night of the year, probably lucky if its full for half the year so the economics of running a CL is not quite the goldmine you seem to think it is? Many CL's are trying to add value by having hardstandings and serviced pitches but that means nightly fees on average are around £20 a night.

There are plenty of reasonably priced CLs around, some areas are more pricey, depends where you want to go. The Alnwick area is popular so it's not going to be as cheap as some places and CL owners have invested in improved sites. We're paying £13 for our next CL, there are still some basic £6 ones on the list.

Problem for CLs in tourist areas is that the peak season is short. They can’t increase their income by taking more visitors in because they are limited to five outfits, so they make more money by increasing their prices. Alternatively they give up the five van limitation of being a CL and make hay while the short peak season lasts.

We’ve just paid £30 for a night at a cl, we were happy to and will be going back. We had booked a club site and then i thought do i want to go to a full site and share facilities for £30 when i can go to a cl, just 5 pitches and individual shower rooms, overlooking a lake for the same price - what do you think???!!! Not a difficult choice.

We are trying to use CLs with few facilities as we generally use our own shower etc, but do want to have EHU. We have found several with serviced pitches for £15, and others without serviced pitches at £12-£15, which we are happy with.
Would prefer not to pay over £18.

CLs vary greatly. OH is stopping on a little beauty later this week. £8 per night. It has all he needs and wants. We very rarely spend more than £18 per night. Usually a tour of three weeks using a mix of Sites works out at an average of £12-13 per night.
If you are off to Hillhead AD, best empty the piggy bank. Most expensive Site on network I think. Never been, but supposed to be nice.

If you do spend even more of the kids inheritance by going to Hillhead and get the bus from outside the site to Kingswear ,it is far more fun if you walk to the car ferry to cross to Dartmouth and the chippy just off the car ferry is good
If you use the Dartmouth steam railway (lovely journey ) really good discount with your travel card , and it was woth the extra pound(3years ago)in the observation car
,Ferry from Brixham to Torquay is good also a pod of dolphins are quite often in the Bay ,one ferry we got actually went to them for us to watch as they surfed the bow wave
The fee by hand out of chips in Paignton main road to sea from from train or bus station are a definite to try,,GD and myself had several as we walked back and forth past
Ps I have been thinking the Op on this thread is so used to "freeloading "is out of touch with reality or the thread is a windup

i seem to have missed the bit where the OP said he had 'free nights'.
we have used 3 CLs on this tour...the first £12...in Kent, lovely field, own facs...2nd in Essex, just the same but £16...3rd in Norfolk, again all very similar but £18....which we though was on the high side...
we used to use a nice CS (other club) in Topsham but 'overnight' the price went from £12 to £25...havent been back.

Doesnt sound too bad HD at £26. Getting late in season for some to stay though I guess. To be honest, it’s a while since I had a look through handbook to work out how expensive some of the Club Sites are. I doubt the pool is open in late September, so that might bring the price down?
We shall be trying out a few Britstops I think in September, one nighters. Got a particular one in mind for going down, have eaten there before, food is lovely, and it’s a cracking location.0
