LPG availability at Total fuel stations in France
On another forum someone posted this link (you will probably have to use the translate function on your browser) to an article in the French magazine Le Monde du Camping-Car saying that Total have stopped people filling gas tanks unless they actually fuel the running of the vehicle. Obviously there are many other outlets in France including most of the major supermarkets that also sell LPG and as yet no indication they are intending to do the same thing?

If a motorhome has an external filling point it would perhaps be difficult for any of the staff at the filling station to be aware that it was not fuel for propulsion unless said staff had an understanding of motorhomes?

I have notice how difficult some French super markets have made it for m/h and tuggers to re fuel at there sites my mate with t/a caravan had to unhook to get out of one or two Of There refuelling sites

I think that has always been the case. I never used them when towing, unless I had previously visited solo. Even with the MH, on our first (and only☹️) foray in 2019, we had to reverse out of two pay at pump ones due to the ridiculously tight chicanes on the exit route. The saving on more accessible places made it worth it though.😀

Must admit, it’s something I really like about the MH. We recently went from Nottinghamshire to Inverness before bothering to refuel and could have got to Thurso with a few drops to spare. In France I never let it get below half, which meant I could pick and choose where I refuelled. The ones I reversed out of were very quiet at lunch time.

i think the larger option on the Ducato/Sevel van is 90 ltrs, which is what we have....bit of a shock these days when you come to pay.
last time in France fuel prices were on the up (tho still cheap in Spain) dont know where they are now...
we have a 'comparitively' short wheelbase which means we dont have too much trouble on the town garages...but you need eyes everywhere for this hidden concrete bollards!
i prefer the 'main road' sites which are far more open and i will still just pull to the LPG pump as normal...as Steve says, its a proper filler and how do they get it back out?...

In the UK we pay a pump price for LPG that normally includes the taxes applicable to its use as a propulsion fuel. A few supplier, e.g. Andy's gas in Bristol, do charge less for LPG for cooking / heating use.
Could it be that a similar taxation system is in place in France? If so perhaps Total has decided that they are unable to differentiate their pump prices for the different uses and that it would be wrong and/or illegal for them to provide LPG for both uses at the same price and tax level.
