Bladon Chains: no showers
I received an email today from the club. The boiler at Bladon Chains has been problematic since start of year. As the site will close permanently this year, the repairs are not being carried out. Apparently the site details on here noted that in March. I booked in February. So, with three weeks to go before I arrive I have been advised to book elsewhere if I’m not happy. Chances of getting another site are nil, so it’ll be a smelly 4 days!

You could of course use the shower in your own caravan. Thousands of us do it every day when away.

Used ours for 1st time when we were away a couple of weeks ago, I was amazed at just how good it was, we were on svcd pitch so not chance of running out of water, and if used sensibly lashings of hot water and very snug in a wrap around shower, just had to find somewhere else to use as a boot/wet coat room .
Was a little bit concerned re condensation but no probs, roof open just a tad, sorted, but i would be a bit concerned if the wardrobe was in the bathroom which i have seen on some vans, damp clothes maybe???

Both the shower in our Bailey and the one in our current MH have dried out very quickly if the roof vent is left open. Particularly in the MH if the warm air vent is going as it was most mornings recently.

Bob, Try Greenhill or Diamond sites, both only a few minutes drive away, and both have showers in good order

Rufs, our wardrobes (2 off) are in our Toilet & shower compartment, and we have used our shower on virtually every site we've used in the last 9+ yrs that we've had our van, so something like 4000 ( four thousand) times without noticing any damp on our clothes.

more than happy to use the van shower..we do plenty of aires/CL/THS sites so at home in the van...
on a tour of SE and had a few days at Brighton where showers were open and was immediately reminded of how poor CC 'std fit' showers are.
the fixed shower head is always too high (loss of water heat) and they all point too far straight down meaning if you stand 18" from the wall the water misses you completely...so i was standing in the metal trough to get a good covering.
and then theres the water temperature which, even when turned up full, is never quite hot enough for a decent steaming shower....H&S perhaps, to prevent us useless folk from burning ourselves?
its not just Brighton, these 'model' snowers are fitted across the CC empire and are equally hopeless wherever you go....

Neither have we and I was surprised not to see windows and doors open on many of the blocks, I know it might feel chilly but at least Covid aerosols can escape. In the present circumstances I prefer not to use communal facilities at all, I do use them occasionally when times are better.
It has been easier on the two sites we've used with service pitches!

A perfectly serious question. If the services offered are reduced then why is the price charged not reduced. Whilst it is true that just because something is there you do not have to use it, for comparison if you bought a 3 course meal for £24 and only got 2 courses because the prawn salad starter was off because of hot weather the price would be reduced.

I think it’s basically because that is the published price for the site and at the moment they can get it. Or get it enough of the time, to make a reduction unnecessary. We stopped at Culloden recently, the facilities are totally out of action there until the 21st June due to a maintenance issue. Although there had been cancellations and you would have no problem getting a booking, there was still reasonable occupancy. Personally I doubt they would have increased revenue by lowering the price as they wouldn’t have attracted sufficient additional punters.

Many would cry 'heresy' David, but you are correct...
club sites get lauded on here for their 'spotless facilities and consistent standards' but if those facilities 'consistently' provide a 'not quite warm enough' shower that points straight down the drain then they are no more than basic.
we were paying almost £30 a night and i expect a decent shower for that price, Covid or not...

I would tend to agree. They wouldn’t need to come as low as the non fac sites. Perhaps price them at £20. However, I can sort of understand the clubs logic. Members organisation or not they are trying to recoup as much money lost to covid as they can. At least unlike some other organisations they have not inflated their prices. They are encouraging folk to use there own with multiple signs in the blocks and many need no encouragement. We were informed about the situation at Culloden and it was our decision to still go and pay. Some recognition of our loyalty would have been nice but I am not bothered by its absence. If we were we would have cancelled and gone elsewhere.
