Club Internet Charges
Hi
we've been members for about 3 years now and love, love, love we are truly hooked with the caravan addiction We love going to the New Forest sites and I have always brought the internet year option which is great and so easy to set up and connect to. My query is and apologies if this has already been discussed, I have only used a small part of my minutes (due to the obvious ugh lockdown) and wondered if anyone knew if the club were extending the minutes into the next year or will I loose them and have to get another year subscription?
Thanks in advance for your help
Regards Claire

It's Air Angel not the club who make these decisions and I believe they have given some sort of extension.
I can’t give you details as I never buy the site Wi-fi so I’m not really interested but you'll probably find it on this website somewhere.

As TW says the Wifi is through Airangel
If you are experiencing difficulty with the Wi-Fi facility on site (e.g. logging on, purchasing time, issues with your devices, payment or refund queries) please contact Airangel (the Wi-Fi supplier) direct on 0333 240 7610. Lines open 24/7, 365 a days a year.
I think you could ring them? Hope this helps.

It says on the help page link I've given that the club is now partnered with BT? Is that just for the upgrade or supplying the Wifi and replacing Airangel?
It does say :
If I have already purchased Wi-Fi in 2020 for 12 months, will this still apply now that the Wi-Fi provision is changing?
Yes, there will be no change to your package - you can use this as many times as you wish until the expiry date of the service that you have purchased

I would have thought that BT(OpenReach) are providing the fibre to the campsite and Air Angel will continue to maintain and administer the distribution of WiFi within the campsite? I noticed on the sites with the high speed connection that streaming is now allowed which is a major change.
At the start of last year I do seem to recall that there was an extension of the annual period due to COVID on access purchased in 2019. Whether that is still ongoing for those that purchased last year I don't know.

We have a smart TV in our motorhome... what dongle / set up would be best for some internet access?

I was lead to believe that the site wi-fi is not up to streaming TV.

It didn't used to be but on the sites with the higher speed internet apparently it is now allowed. I think it was mentioned when they announced the upgrade in the magazine?

Best way to get internet on a smart TV in a motorhome?

Use your 4/5g phone and set it up as a wifi hotspot. Even poor 4g reception will be better than the club wifi.
I do this in conjunction with an Amazon fire stick plugged into the HDMI slot. Works fine on most sites - not Brighton though if you are on EE - no reception

I subscribed to Club WIFI in May when I was at Clumber park site (Silver), and managed to connect and stream TV on and off during my stay. I thought this was due to low quality (Silver) of the WIFI on the site.
Next three of site I had booked based to WIFI quality as described on the Club website to be GOLD, Cayton Village, The Firs and Grafham Water. I did not manage to connect at any of these sites. I rang Air Angel who were not much help either. The person informed me that their WIFI does not support streaming services.
In the end I gave up on the Club WIF and purchased mobile sim and used it as hotspot to stream the TV.
The information on the Club website is very misleading.
I can't find any information about cancelling my WIFI subscription as I have not managed to use it.

MS, the upgrade program and the existing conditions are all explained on the Wi-fi page
https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/uk-holidays/useful-information/wi-fi/
including the item from FAQ below.
You’d need your speak to Air Angel about a refund.

That’s not what the club say about their new improved service, which should support streaming. Can’t see it myself, if more than a handful want to stream, but that’s what they put “✓ Streaming movies, checking emails and posting photos is even easier”

But the warnings are there as per my screenshot. It’s rather contradictory though.

I agree re contradictory. I think much of the problem is down to the fact that this higher speed is only being introduced this year and they have not updated some of the wording. So they say streaming is both not possible and possible on different parts of the page. What I don’t understand is there claim re a speed of up to 100MB at 107 campsites. Tewkesbury has had this for some time. When not many folk are using it, due to the dynamic bandwidth used on gold sites, I recorded speeds of 14 MB, easily enough for streaming. However, on an evening when more were online the speed dropped to 1 / 2 MB only sufficient for browsing / emails. Unless of course they mean 100MB each, and there goes the Tamworth squadron.🐖🐖🐖🐖

Tewkesbury has had 100MB to the site for several years. If this new enhanced service is only replicating that at other sites, I can’t see how it will be normally suitable for streaming as they clearly claim. Most streaming will be during the evening. As I put during this time the speed on my pad dropped to 1 / 2 MB. So a few might have managed to stream, but not many.
