Awning/non awning pitches

Apologies if it's been asked before but if you have booked a specific type of pitch what happens if they are all taken?

I presume that the wardens cross check their bookings with the pitch place the new arrival has said they have taken, in fact do they instruct which pitches are available to new arrivals depending on their booking?

I haven't stayed at a club site for several years, in fact I have only used the caravan once in about 5 years so it's all change I expect. More motor caravans than ever and maybe they are in the majority now.

They wouldn't be all taken unless someone has parked themselves on a different pitch to what they booked. They do indeed tell you what colour peg you should be looking for and If they allow a change it will be because there are sufficient free pitches.

I doubt motorhomes outnumber caravans right now but it is getting pretty close.

At the last count I think caravans still outnumbered MHs around 2:1 on club sites but it varies throughout the season. Peak times are more likely to see families in caravans on sites, for instance.

However, it's somewhat academic as the same pitch types - awning, non-awning, serviced and a few economy - are available to both Cvans and MHs.

PD has explained arrival and pitch availability exactly as it happens.

It's always best to ask the wardens if you want to change from one sort to another as what may appear to be a vacant pitch could be earmarked for following days arrivals so the warden will be able to check his future bookings to see if the required pitch will be free for the entirety of your stay.

The system won't allow overbooking of particular pitch types. Awning pitches tend to by far the more numerous and the number of awning/non awning pitches varies greatly between sites. If you want a non awning pitch I would suggest consulting the site plan before booking so you can judge how much choice you will get. If you want to book one type but then decide to change it on arrival on site, this is possible providing there are free pitches of the type you now want. Just a suggestion if going down this route just make sure you mention it to the wardens before they start pressing any buttonssmile

Thanks for your replies all and I am reassured I won't have the problem of not having a reserved type of pitch available . I have two trips booked, one I'm taking the awning, the other not. I have specifically decided on a non awning pitch at Bunree for example as I want a loch side pitch..and yes, I did look at the camp plans for each site I am booked in to which give a good indication of what I might expect. The CAMC website is an excellent information source and booking facility even if it is a tad slow to respond!
