Lac d'orient near Troyes
Good morning, first time here on discussions.
We have booked some days on the lac d' orient site in September, (covid permitting) we will be in our motorhome. Looking at a day in Troyes, has anyone any suggestions of transport in or parking for van as there doesn't seem to be a local bus and probably to far for us there and back on our cycles.
Thanks

I would agree with that last sentence in the reply from WTG - move your Motorhome to Camping Troyes in the town for a couple of nights. You won't need to book in September but phone ahead the day before if you are anxious .
The Cool Camping website has a good description of that town site, and several reviews too. We have used it several times rather than going out to the Lac d Orient.

Have you tried Camping-Car Park?
I believe their nearest site is:

Tend to agree with the previous contributions about the Municipal in Troyes which is in walking distance of the Centre. This is a very old review of the site from when I last visited in 2002 so things may have changed a bit.

The municipal site in Troyes us now closed according to the website.

The website does give the impression of closure rather than being closed because of COVID? I will add a note to my website and if we get more definitive information I will remove. Thanks to barrowfamily for the heads up.

I visited Troyes Municipal, and it will be a shame if it closes, but the area around reception was getting rather shabby. The pitches were large and site peaceful.
Troyes itself is rather unique with plenty of wooden houses, and the town does get better the further you walk away from the site.
The square is lovely for an evening drink in the town, even bumping into Rick Stein filming one of his touring cookery programmes.

Can confirm that the municipal site in Troyes is closed.
We stayed there in September 2018, the staff there was telling everyone that it was closing at the end of the season, most had been there for years.
It wasn't clear if they had been bought out or not.
It was a decent site and very handy for visiting the town.

The town tourist office website is confirming that Camping de Troyes is closed for renovation work - someone may like to contact that office to see whether they have a firm re opening date.
The commune had already passed the site into private hands a few years ago and my guess is that it has now been sold on to one of the big commercial companies who specialise in town sites - for example Camping Strasbourg and other similar ones operated by CityKamp. That website is well worth looking at. But that is just a guess.

Good morning
Just an update, I've had a lovely rey from Troyes tourist information, large free car park on esplanade belgeque next to pice Station. Bus service runs from nearby village Mesnil St Pere during summer months. So we are sorted. It's lovely to be planning, let's hope it all goes well and everyone gets to where they want to be safely.
Thanks again for your help

My guesstimate is that it will take about twenty minutes to walk into Mesnil from the campsite but easy walking along the lakeside for half of the way. Top tip for Lac d'orient is to avoid the bottom of the site it can get very flooded. The restaurant over the road by the lakeside is excellent. Never tried the campsite restaurant it looks very basic. Swimming pool is good.

This is an excellent site - all pitches are fully serviced and the facilities are also excellent - quite new when we were there in 2018. The reception staff speak excellent English and are very helpful.
I cannot comment on the Motorhome parking as we are "tuggers" rather than "chuggers" (as someone once described it to us) but wanted to say that the campsite restaurant is good basic coffee shop type food. Pleasant service and not so expensive. Agreed the restaurant across the road from the campsite is excellent but very popular at weekends.
A good pool as well on the site.
Agreed an easy walk to Mesnil where there are buses.
Have to say we were a little disappointed in Troyes so hope you will not depart with the same feelings.
Enjoy the site - one of the best we have visited in France

Not our experience, a few years ago. We don’t normally book sites, however as it was late July we decided we would. Pitch was largely bare ground, due to awning damage. It was dry when we arrived but a thunderstorm reduced it to a sea of mud. Although a service pitch, the position of the drain meant the water had to go uphill. Nicely located, but would not bother again.
