And i was in Spain Easter 2019, when all the Easter Parades were cancelled, the area we were in was flooded completely, thankfully not the site, and read up on the Mar Menor , it is still highly polluted as a result of the violent storms of 2019. Was watching a tv programme only last week were it showed whole olive groves in France washed out and ruined as a result of storms, yup agree the likes of Spain do get better weather than the UK, but have a daughter that has lived there for 10 years and this is the worst winter she can recall

I seem to remember a turn right would lead a MHer to a free aires with free MH service point and safe parking for the night all within easy walking distance of harbour side restaurants for the evening meal and a selection of boulangerie for the mornings fresh baguette, croissants, and / or pain au chocolat. 0 -
I'm with you about grey skies. That's how we discovered that two seats on a plane to Thailand cost rather less than a cabin on a ferry to Spain, but takes half the time, and that beachfront huts on the islands are about the same price as campsites. I just hope I can go again. Staycation has no appeal.

Agreed - I think you have to go further afield than you can by road to get blue skies and beaches like this!
But I'm equally at home, and enjoy cloudy days in the lakes!

You've not been to Aquitaine then? Pine trees and cicadas can get a bit monotonous though.

DT, there is a way to avoid those costs-don’t use toll roads or RP!
The route from Roscoff to La Yole is toll free and we have insurance through our bank account.

DT, my last post is related to the OP, and La Yole. It’s 242 miles from Roscoff so after the overnight crossing would be there at app 1300 plus stops, so maybe 1500 at latest.
If we travel further afield then it would likely be a mix of toll, we have an EMOVIS tag, and non toll.
Up to now our routine has always been to go straight to the main destination, the furthest point, then meander as we head back.

I have no idea where Lo Yole is and to be honest can’t even remember where where I went just that it was near La Rochelle. I can remember being packed in like sardines. And nearly bumping into some Germans huge and I mean huge Motorhome every time I came out of my Awning, it was that close.

I recall taking the van, maybe 15 years ago, to (amongst other places thereafter) Royan. We caught the Poole-Cherbourg ferry. From memory, we paid around £450 (return) for the crossing, which admittedly was during high season. We were due to travel to France last year, staying for a month (May-June) and I’m pretty sure I paid around £165 (return, through the club) for the Portsmouth-Caen crossing. That’s pretty good value, I reckon.

And tell me David, How many different CLs and Municipal Sites and come to think of it CAMC sites have you actually stayed on in the last 5 years to make this comparison?
I have actually stayed on far, far more than you have in all 3 categories and you are quite wrong about Cls and Municipal sites, at least the ones that I have actually experienced, say well over 100 in the years I've been going to France. CLs in the UK? About 15 a year, 90% of which are new to me, so about 200 in the last 20 years give or take.
So if I make a comparison on prices I tend to know what facilities and standards I am talking about. Besides which you seem to have missed the fact that I wasn't actually complaining about price differentials, merely pointing out my experiences.
If we were talking about price I have conveniently overlooked tolls and extra fuel but I'm not the one splitting hairs.
Fact - It's going to cost more by going abroad.
Fact - It's worth it.

I am not sure I see a comparison between CL's and Municipals either? Admittedly I don't use many CL's simply because they are usually, but not exclusively, in the middle of nowhere. On the other hand in the last 30 or so years I have used dozens of French Municipals. The only direct link is pricing which seems similar and if you have facilities I suspect CL's are more expensive? French Municipals are nearly always close to town which is a major advantage to us. In that way I can see a loose comparison with Club sites although I am of the view that few Municipals I have used match Club sites on quality.

WN, It may have escaped you but the whole point of my OP was that I had presumed it would be more expensive but it may not be.
The route to the site I quote is toll free. From my home it’s well over the mileage to La Yole get to many popular parts of UK to holiday
However, Yes, it is worth it-if not why are we doing it?

Last year, following the June deferment, I'd hoped to travel around May/June this year. As things stand at the moment, even a late summer/early autumn one looks a bit iffy. Looks like 2021 is going to be an 'over there' write-off like last year.

Think you are mixing issues around our exit from the EU and peoples concerns over safe travel, in relation to Covid, but my feeling is we will, if we wish, be able to travel by the summer.
We could all be masquerading as, in general, more senior members of society but if not we are but a small concern for the industry as summer approaches.
The expectations then will be that accomodation will be at full capacity and the prices will be at their highest and family accomodation is what will be bring in the most money.
BF have said that Brits account for 85% of their passengers and this is just one example of many that show our business is wanted and wanted as soon as possible.
Its then for us to decide if we feel it will be safe for ourselves.
