SARS-CoV-2 and COVID 19
A new thread in which to discuss SARS-CoV-2 and COVID 19 and the various vaccines. How long it will last I have no idea but on past performance some seem able to dispose of threads much faster than we can dispose of the virus.
To kick it off:
As I understand it regarding the current vaccines, particularly the OAZ offering, the only assurance the scientists and doctors are giving is that in most cases if you have had the vaccine and do catch the virus you are less likely to get seriously ill, although that is not guaranteed.
Having had the vaccine does not that guarantee that you have not got Covid.
It is not a guarantee that you will not catch the virus, and
It is not a guarantee that you will not spread it if you do get infected.
Bearing in mind that the primary objective of the virus is to replicate, the later mutations seem to be residing more heavily in the upper respiratory tract of those infected making it much easier for the virus to be spread by aerosol (coughs and sneezes spread diseases).
One thing we have yet to see is the SARS-CoV-2 virus becoming less dangerous. It can't replicate if it kills its hosts so it may yet become more able to easily spread but less of a killer. Sneaky!
Moderator Comment - As has been mentioned there is an earlier new thread on this subject so I have closed this one to avoid duplication.

Someone has already opened a new thread (13,35 08/02/21) to discuss covid. having two will be confusing to some.

It seems that the veritable Matt Hancock will be on at 1700 hrs to try and persuade us all is well with the OAZ vaccine. I shall listen closely to what he and his team have to say, how they say it, and especially to what they don't say.
