It's pretty obvious really but this year is heading the same way as 2020 in terms of staycation says Nick Lomas to the BBC.

Tbh, the pictures we saw of ram jam full sites last year were enough to make me stay at home.

Edit:  Whoops, I've just seen Brue's link in the Easter thread.

I agree.  Many will be staying in the UK.  Assuming we're allowed to go anywhere.....

I've already started to book some mid-week outings for late spring.  If we're not allowed, we can always cancel.

We spent a week on ram jam full site in late September TW, at North Berwick and we had no problems. Kept ourselves out of harms way. Did everything we would do if we stayed on a CL.

Some CLs only have the same spacing as club sites and if you don't use the Toilet Blocks for any reason it's just your unit surrounded by 3 or 4 others, whichever type of site you use.

Once away from site we found spaces away from the throng as well. Once we walked half a mile past the "let's stop here brigade" then space opened up and we carried on in exactly the same way we would do if at home.

It's not the sites that would stop us. I'm hopeful that by mid June at the latest all three of us will have had a second jab along with a large swathe of the adult population. We'll try to avoid heavily concentrated points whilst away but all three of us are of the mind that we'll go somewhere. The soon to be 88 year old insists the most. As she says each year lost is a high percentage of what's left to her.

Yes about your second paragraphsmile We should start a bet on who that will be?

Of course it could also be a tactic to get people booking? (like me)

We have some nice bolt holes, but doubt even these will be the one or two outfits on site we are used to using.

Only got one booking so far, that’s for an event. We are going to get handbook and maps out later, look at some mini tours we can just go on a whim when things are ok/suit.

Ha ha, 😁 No one springs to mind, honestly.

I have a plan though. We could form little groups and take advantage of each other’s drive to park up on. Wales, Lakes, North East, South Yorkshire, Wiltshire, East Yorks, Cornwall...... Have to be careful about double booking though🤣 All it needs is a tap, a bin, a plug into garage, a sewer access, hand sanitiser and some disinfectant wipes👍

Scotland? We need a willing Scot or two........😁

That article is dated August 2020 but it's quite concerning that folk think they can jab and go. I foresee the possibility of massive refunds or lost deposits and holiday companies in trouble.😕

My apologies, I should have checked. It’s just that I’d heard something on the news the other day, where a TUI spokesperson was saying that bookings were at similar levels to those quoted (from memory). What it does show though is that there are quite a lot of folks out there who’s intention is to travel abroad. It could well end in tears.

No apology needed. It just shows how early the booking rush for 2021 package holidays started and how manic the situation is for holidays home and away.

Freddy there's an update which I expect you heard or read..."Over 50s rush to book holidays"  BBC LINK

Can't help thinking. like you, there might be a rush to cancel unfortunately as the vaccination programme is going to take quite a long time to reach all those intended age groups.

BBCwebsite is throwing up a lot of previously posted news articles. I read one the other day, some sensationalist COVID report, turned out to be dated back last April🤷‍♀️

We've actually booked a trip in May in the hope we might see son and family, (re-arranged deposits from cancelled trips last year) also a July CL but we're not holding our breath.

I think Nick is right it is going to be like a cork popping out of a bottle. I getting quite stir crazy now and the light at the end of the tunnel is still not looking much brighter. Our vaccination centre was supposed to open this week and I have seen nothing to say it has and I certainly would not contemplate leaving the country until we both have had our double doses. Even then it would depend on what restrictions were still in place and the Continentals will also have the same desires to get away so it could also be busy over there as well.

I have some sites booked, nothing that cannot be cancelled should it be necessary. Off grid could well be the answer to finding quieter sites. And I think we will see more motorhome "Aires" opening, especially in Scotland to absorb some of the rush. Even so I would not want to be away in the peak of summer other than perhaps locally on a CL

I know one thing, I'll have to get out my old checklist for hitching up/arrival as it's been so long since towing that I'm sure I'll forget something.

We would only book if deposits were either not required, or fully returnable, at least any dates pre July. I think things are just so up in the air at the moment, even in UK.

The newbies were out in force last September, we said a brief socially distanced hello to a few on their first trips out, vans and Motorhomes. There were a lot more really big outfits around as well, possibly more likely to be predominantly overseas at that time usually?

All we can hope is that a lot more Sites will be open this year, one or two of our usuals (not Club or CL) had decided not to open.

I will be happy just to get away when schools are back, that tends to make things easier.
