Arrival times

Surprised there are any campers on club sites, maybe there arent, dont use them as a rule, but judging by all the complaints re arrival times, departures, choosing a pitch, noisy children and not to forget all the dog complaints, dont understand why all these people who complain use them , when we go away in the van we go to chill, not worry that we have to be up at the crack of dawn so that we can escape and get to the next encampment before 1300 hrs .

I don’t think there are that many that do moan. If you read the reviews, the majority are positive. 👍
Up around 7:00, leisurely breakfast, away just after 9:00. Couple of hours to next site, restocking with food on the way. Hardly onerous.🤔1 -
Up at 7am😱 I never had to get up that early for work, let alone play.
We are all so different😁 Off site by 10.00am, park up by beach, swim, picnic, go for a walk, maybe another swim, back to MH, cook a meal, chill out by sea, another pooch walk, roll into next Site at dusk. And repeat. Bliss. Throw in plenty of interesting places to see/visit as well of course.😁

Can relate to the "Up around 7:00" fido normally wants out, but quick trip round dog walk, back to bed with cup of tea, listen to 0800 news, then maybe consider getting out of bed, have normally showered night before so whilst OH showering i get breakfast ready. Provided we have taken awning down i reckon on 30-45 minutes to hitch up and be underway. Must admit we very seldom do more than 2 sites per trip if in UK, am ok with say driving 80 miles or so, on a day out from site if we fancy visiting a particular place, so arrival times are not really an issue for us

The thing is that CAMC has fixed arrival times. Either table a question at the AGM to get it changed or abide by it, or go to a site when you can arrive at whatever time you like.
And it doesn't always work abroad a few sites in Italy have fixed arrival times.

Perhaps that traffic you heard the other morning was people going shopping then?

Does booking, and paying for, an extra night which there is no intention of using not in many cases deprive another caravaner of the opportunity to actually stay on site . . . ?

perhaps, maybe, but only only when the site is really full?
But it's what we like to do to enjoy our holidays and within the rules. It's our money after all and the pitch is paid for.
It has been posted on here that by serving wardens that in some sites those pitches are 'resold', usually to passing motorhomes.

Yup blooming fog horns going again from about 0500 hrs and then the SAR took off and flew down the coast at about 0700 hrs, yes we also live near to an airfield , not very big, private aircraft, and normally most aircraft take off and fly out across the Solent towards the IOW so no big shakes

Err🤔, everytime you(& others) book you deprive others of those dates-but it’s fair👍🏻. It’s also choice. Everytime I buy bread I don’t worry if I’m taking it from others even if I may not eat it all & some gets binned. That’s a very odd logic you have there Navman🤷🏻♂️

It is the same logic used by retailers when they restrict purchases to prevent a few customers buying up all of a shop's week's supply of a commodity, such as toilet rolls, just because they have the money and the commodity is on sale.

But club sites open at the same time every day so how does that catch folk out?

I'm with Rocky on this one.
It's very rare that you will be the last person on site, making that pitch the only spare one. I often used to book and pay for Sunday night when I was working so that I could enjoy a full day's walking. We'd have something to eat and leave about 6.30 for a 90 minute drive home. As it was nearly always a Sunday, sometimes the Bank Holiday Monday, there were plenty of people leaving before 12.00, usually as requested by the warden, so plenty of pitches for arrivals.
If I did leave before 12.00 then I would be depriving the Club of Income as I obviously wanted to stay. If no-one took up my pitch the club would lose out.
Anyway this is the arrival thread so maybe time for a Sunday Departure thread. Haven't had one of those for a while.

Not really, we're talking a pitch here and what you're talking about is what happened during the first lockdown. And all shops appeared to be affected but here we're just talking about a club site pitch and if you can't buy it on a club site there are plenty of other campsites to choose from.
Are you saying that a club site pitch is an essential commodity that people have to have and therefore should be rationed?
In case case how are you going to police this buy a pitch and don't use it ?
All the club wants to do, and really all campsites, is to sell its pitches.
If a pitch is taken and paid for then really sadly that is back luck to anyone who wants it. Get in a booking before me

I do try to always book as early as the world outside The Caravan Club will allow me, but I often find I am in the situation that I can book all of the period that I want apart from one night. Since we usually stay for two or three weeks on one site that has always been frustrating as it is not really practical to book what is available and hope that someone drops out from that fully occupied night while we are there.
Now I have this spectre that the site will actually be far from full because of people booking and paying for that crucial night but not actually wanting to be there.
