I can always remember in my BT now openreach days.
I went to move a pole feeding a market gardners premises. The reason being some new houses had been built and the owners did not like the sighting of the pole that was there before their houses were built. They wanted to benefit from a good product “a new house”. The same people also complained about the trucks leaving the market Gardner’s place early in the morning. All of these things were there before they were. But they moved in and wanted things changing to their liking. When I read your posts I always think of this.

Locals complain about things at Gatwick yet the airport has operating commercially since 1933. I can understand people being aggrieved at the disruption of a rural idyll but if you don';t want aircraft noise, don't live near an airport.

I don't know how you know that JVB but even if only 10 percent of 350,000 member households went to digital membership,  that is a lot of members and should result in a big saving in postage let alone paper and printing costs.

The best way with bold statements is proof. A link or C&P/SS of empirical evidence will always dispel the accusations of fake news👍🏻. Failing that-pinch of salt approach is needed.

Advertising Rocky😉 They will get in enough to cover costs, it’s how such publications work. Gives folks a choice.

Ours must be "lost in the Post" not a sign of it yet.We are getting very sporadic deliveries. It would be nice to be able to read it during "Groundhog Day".I wish I had some clue about what the rest of you are on about🙃.

It’s that perennial “what use is the paper handbook” discussion Ken😁 That time of year again, all good fun😂

(Hope you are doing ok by the way, I must catch up with you elsewhere)

I was posting about being able to prove stated facts in posts TDA, by screenshots & copy & paste. Not about adverts in mags👍🏻

Sorry Rocky I might have misunderstood. Merely meant to say the income from adverts would cover the cost of the handbook, so it gave Members an option😁, without using up valuable member fees.

I have just discovered that the printed site directory has proved very useful and much quicker than trying to do the same thing online! In reply to another thread I was able to quickly check some facts whilst at the same time not moving away from the reply I was typing on screenwink

Using a printed book is quicker than looking up site details online. Totally agree but there is a very good reason for that and its not because the book is good.

To be honest however great the IT system was it would not have been quicker or more convenient to use for the purpose I was putting it to  at the time. I am all for the Club improving it's IT but there is still a place, currently, for a printed Site Directory in my view. Maybe that will change in time.

I think even with a totally super-duper system as you want, picking up a book and find a page is often quicker than picking up a device like a phone, switching it on/awake, open the app, search for what you want, then play about scrolling up/down left/right as the screen can't display everything you want at one time.

It may well be quicker, I don't know because I never use the directory. I would have opened up another tab to find the answer while still retaining the original page on the original tab. How much you can see surely depends on the size of the screen and your knowledge of how to move around it.

I bet you cannot check availability from the directory. wink

Can't agree with you Peede, you would have needed to have opened a dozen tabs to do what I was doing. I just flicked through the pages to establish what the arrival times were at about a dozen sites which would have taken ages to do looking at each one online. OK perhaps not the use that either were designed for but I think we have to be a bit careful in suggesting that everything in every circumstance can be done better or easier online.

Agree, the directory is out of date the day it drops through the letter box and it gets steadily more out of date with each passing month. It is far too time consuming to keep up todate when the latest information is available on the web.

Depends what information one is wanting PD. For me it serves my wants at planning stage and on arrival.

Horses for courses David. If I wanted to look at multiple sites for information I would work from search the map pages. Probably not as quick as turning pages in the handbook but at least you expect the information to be up to date.

Club sites don't come and go quite so much as CLs but as has already been pointed out if notes have been attached for what ever reason, these wil be missed. For those using CLs it must be fraught with difficulty

Some say the website is up to date? then others would not agree especially with CLs

In the absence of pricing, the handbook has all the utility of  a chocolate teapot.

The Directory and Handbook is probably out of date about two months before any member gets to see it due to the process for printing and distribution.

It is still a lot easier to use than peering at a tiny screen. Perhaps when fold-out screens are produced, with a system to put tabs on different screens as one flicks through a number of views, it will get close to the ease of using a book.  Must go - battery about to die (again).

On my pad it is easy enough to have multiple tabs along the top of the browser window and flick between them. A phone I would agree is more of a challenge and I wouldn’t use by choice. If away I would link the pad to the phones 4G and use that.

This year in particular the book is likely to be next to useless in respect of dates. Things are changing all the time. It’s possible the sites in the NW of Scotland that remained closed last year, may do again.☹️ A shame as we have several rebooked from last year.

I am not concerned by site prices when planning. Whether sites are open or closed I will find  out. Not counting on going away anytime soon
