Matt Hancock in tonight's briefing said that staying local meant not driving half way across England when asked whether 7 miles was considered to be local (re Boris being spotted 7 miles from home on a bike although not actually referred to by MH).

The review into the conduct of police in respect of the two ladies at Foremark Reservoir has been completed and the comments from the Chief Constable of Derbyshire, Rachel Swann are:
"Two fixed penalty notices that were handed to two women who had travelled to Foremark Reservoir on Thursday have been withdrawn and we have notified the women directly, apologising for any concern caused".
The CC also acknowledged that "At present, there is no clear limit as to how far people can travel to exercise".
On this basis I now feel I can drive the 4½ miles to Calke Abbey (where there were also numerous police present last week), where I know I will encounter far less people than I would walking the streets in my 'local area' and therefore feel safer.

You might need to book J20! NT are operating a timed ticket system. I got an update this afternoon

Obviously worth her salt.
On the subject of distancing on walks, I sometimes take a steel rule which raises a smile and emphasises the requirement. If I wanted to be more forceful, I suppose I could take my camera monopod.

We've been booking since the booking system started several months ago. We go at least every two to three weeks. It's very local to us. We normally need to book two or three days prior to going. The booking system does restrict the number allowed into the estate so the number of people encountered in the 600 acres is really quite small.

OH related her experience of trying to get hold of a box of eggs in Aldi one day in the first lockdown..........a couple in their 60s were looking at the eggs, blocking her getting near what she wanted, lifting and inspecting a box of every type and size, lots of discussion, then after holding several people up, moved on without selecting any.
She saw them later doing similar with other products.Reckoned it must be their first visit to the store.
Then she saw them at the checkouts, despite large signs saying to pack at your car, or the packing area, holding up the queue by packing everything carefully into their bags as it was scanned through.
There was a lot of glowering from those behind them in the queue!

It’s a good system, we used booking system a couple of times while away in September and October. Properties are so much nicer to visit when numbers are less. Enjoy......

Doesn't he have a protection squad with him at all times?
I've not been out this year and I'm morphing from a lookalike Michelangelo's David into Mr Blobby, but if Boris is allowed 7 miles from home then I'll be out tomorrow!

Yes +1
At present, there is no clear limit as to how far people can travel to exercise
didn't they read the guidelines? Nottinghamshire police did.

That's the odd thing, isn't it? You are encouraged to exercise locally but the streets are worse than the M25 when it comes to walkers, joggers, runners, cyclists, cars et al. Not good for avoiding the virus!
Now if you were to drive say 6 miles to the local forest and enjoy a relatively crowd free walk etc., quite safe from Covid 19, you would be fined by the police for having done just that.
Perhaps the only safe way is to walk up and down the garden a 100 times or so!

We were out this morning for one and half hours and saw only two joggers and another couple walking. Mind you it was heavy drizzle without respite.
We've done the same circular walk since lockdown mark 1. It's 4.5 miles and I would have expected to be bored to tears by now but amazingly I'm not. We go one way round one day and t'other way the next. Anyone we do meet, and we've met some really nice people , keeps their distance. I've calculated that in one year we'll have walked 1600 plus miles. I'm just hoping I don't wear my new knee out!

That’s why we need the media free & fearless👍🏻. Keep the Govt bods on their best(ish) behaviour👏🏻👏🏻

I don't think it is criticising Bores per se, it is the total lack of clarity about what is 'local'.
Boris J, by implication, 7 miles is 'local'
Matt Hancock - "not driving halfway across England"
Kit Malthouse - Policing Minister - "Local is whatever believe it is in your own mind".
No wonder everyone is confused if senior members of the government don't agree on a definition.
How long is a piece of string? Answers on a postcard

We need precision. Stipulate a 5 mile radius and everyone knows where they stand. Consider yourselves lucky. In Spain it was 200 metres during their lockdown! Mind you, we haven't got a proper lockdown. We're just playing at it which is why this torture is perpetuated.
