Motability, Breakdown Insurance & RAC
As a disabled caravanner driving a towcar on lease from Motability, I am pleased to report a very recent & welcome change in direction by RAC, Motability's provider of Breakdown Insurance. I would add at this point that I only learned of this change last week when I received my annual renewal notification from RAC Arrival. Those drivers who like me, use their Motability vehicle to tow their caravan are well aware that their vehicle is already covered for breakdown (UK & Europe) and paid for by their monthly lease payments to the scheme. However, their caravan, very reasonably is not so insured for breakdown. As Motability will not insure a caravan for breakdown and will not permit any other breakdown insurer attend to a broken down Motability vehicle, drivers have had to take out a full breakdown insurance from RAC Arrival. Incidentally, RAC allowed Motability drivers to pay about £40.00 for an 'add-on' but cancelled this benefit a couple of years ago. In my case, last year's premium was increased from £255.00 to £311.00. Wow!!
After much discussion with my wife, I was compelled to call RAC Arrival requesting a review of the premium. After a short session of questions & answers with an extremely friendly and attentive advisor in the renewal department, I was put on hold for a number of minutes. The advisor subsequently returned with what he described as good news. It transpired that in April/May of this year, RAC reintroduced the 'add-on' to my RAC Arrival policy. The cost was £90.00 for European Breakdown or £65.00 for UK. I was delighted and so should all other Motability customers who use their vehicle to tow a caravan. I wondered what would have happened if I simply accepted the renewal quotation? Lesson learned. Regards to all, Lew

I too had an exceptional high quote on one renewal,I telephoned the RAC and requested "Have you got the correct person" as I had not required any of their services that year.
A brief pause on the telephone and renewal almost met what the Caravan Club's Mayday service prices.
I did ring the CCC to inform them of the RAC's renewal.
Talking of the RAC Arrival scheme,I take it you know that service is run by the Camping and Caravanning Club, not this one.Perhaps you could post this on the CCC forum.(If you could find it and get it to work!)

Ours was due for renewable in September, we also received the exceptional high renewal quote, I could not get sense out of RAC customer advisors so in the end contacted Motability who eventually sorted it out, ever year we have the same problem.
