As it is, we keep our distance from our daughter and grandchildren. We do though look after our youngest granddaughter (18months) for two days a week while our daughter is at work. Not ideal, but our daughter has to work and AFAIC, an acceptable/necessary risk.

I understand what you are saying, maybe I used a blunt tool but I still say if they don’t want to be part of the childcare they should say so, if they say nothing then mission creep will be the result, they will be put upon most likely. I love my GK’s but the amount of time I spend with them is my call. Other folk?, that’s their call👍🏻

Having missed out on having frequent contact with our other 2 grandchildren, because I was still working when the first was born, and because they live about a 45 minute drive away, we are really enjoying having so much contact with little Callum. He is a pleasure to be with.
His parents did not assume that we, or the other grandparents, would look after him, we all offered. We only do afternoons, normally Wednesday-Friday, but at the moment the other GPs have been banned for a fortnight as a relative has the virus.
DD did not want us to take on full days as she would normally set out for work well before 8am and she knows we are not "morning people"! Getting a suitable nursery place in the area is not easy, but she was lucky and found one that opens at 07.30.
Even just a half day place at nursery is about £600 per month, and one has to pay for 50 weeks per year even if you are a teacher and have 11 weeks holiday when you could be looking after your child yourself, so having children and a career is quite a financial commitment, though it does get easier as the children get older.
Since Daddy is a teacher, we get at least 11 weeks off anyway, plus we can swap with the other GPs as necessary, so all of us can get whatever time we wish for holidays.
Having already spent the first 10 years of my retirement touring Europe and UK, we do not feel we are missing out at all.

It is not only the SE that has high house prices JVB, in this area a nice house in an area with a good school does not come cheap! To afford that will generally need 2 incomes these days.
DD had a nice house, a 4 bedroom terraced townhouse, bought on her own before she was married, but it was not in the catchment area of a good school. The choice was either to remain in that house, and pay school fees, or spend the money on a house in the right area.
Although this is a larger place in floor area, it still only has 4 bedrooms, one used as a study, and is actually the ground floor flat in a big, old house that was converted to 2 flats about 45 years ago. The extra space is in the kitchen and living area, plus they now have a big garage a big driveway, and a large garden, rather than their previous "postage stamp".
Later, when they no longer need to be in the school catchment, they could sell up and move elsewhere, probably mortgage free, but I doubt they will as it is a very convenient area in which to live.

Year of birth (1952) will not help you find more. My first name is common knowledge as I often use it on forums if I make a very personal comment. and I am happy to do so. I am pretty aware of what I do give away TTDA.

With a possible vaccine on the horizon maybe we can ge through the coming months on a more positive note.
Meanwhile the virus hasn't gone away...our "contacts" today will be a an early visit to a NT garden, a prescription pick up, a visit to the vets and someone picking up a farmshop delivery for us. Stay safe everyone!

Names, post code, first line of address, dob, easily guessed passwords,....
Apparently there are still folks who use “password1” or 12345678 as their email password. Coupled with the fact that a lot use their actual name for emails, i.e johnsmith@ whatever.com 😱

I do have a facebook account. Absolutely no information for this Mr Blobby. There is no content. I have 1 one friend who does not use their real name and is hidden anyway . Facebook does not show my details. My hidden details include my DOB which is incorrect as on all forums

Identify fraud is easy for those that way inclined. I’d be more worried about data breaches from legitimate sites. I had an email recently from some lowlife who’d obviously been able to access my email and a login password I use. Further investigation suggests it was an account with ASDA for online shopping - an account created so I could buy stuff online for delivery to my elderly mother. No warning from Asda, but a search reveals they have been hacked in the past.

Interesting SB. I had the same credit card for over 30 years, no problems, obviously they kept sending a new one when old one expired.
Since booking delivery slots with Tesco I have had my card replaced not once but twice in 6 months. Maybe it's coincidence but I don't think so as card provider said it was a retailer that prompted the action on both occasions.

One of our sons has just gone from long term renting to buying. We helped with the deposit & a lump sum to get them started. I’m a big believer in not leaving any monies for our children but to give it to them whilst we are still alive so we can enjoy their enjoyment of it. The House(revenue) will be shared but I want to help them all now👍🏻. I’m willing to get involved by request only re our children’s decisions financial or otherwise. If I caution against a particular decision but they’ve taken the decision & it’s bitten them, We don’t pick up the tab. Christmas however is a great time to give goodly sums to share in their happiness, 2020 being a prime example. I didn’t learn much from my father but not throwing good money after bad was certainly one of them.

Funny you should say that as I have several cards including a Tesco CC and it is the only card that has been replaced on a regular basis because of fraud. I wonder if that is down the type of use of that card or Tesco being more on the ball? BTW I have never been aware of any of the reasons the card needed to be replaced.

I was sent a new Debit card yesterday by my bank. No where near expiry date, but letter explained that due to the huge increase in online shopping, they are replacing cards more frequently. It did state that it wasn’t prompted by any security breach, and that it was just an added precaution.

So, back to covid. I'm glad that younger people don't appear to suffer the effects so much, but due to that some of them will be less cautious. If all were affected so badly then I believe it would be taken more seriously by everyone. We are extremely cautious and fortunately, our family are cautious for us, despite our son's family having had it. These idiots who choose to disregard government advice are not only costing lives but costing us all money, all these lockdown and the money being paid out by the government will have to be paid back in taxes later. Seriously, our grandparents went through two world wars and some of us are complaining about stopping home, taking care and following advice. What does it really say about some of the modern generation.

I am just reading some stuff about the anti Vaxxers and conspiracy theorists. All ages. They are going to be the next hard nut to crack. Debating with them rationally doesn’t work, just reinforces the need to resist. A few shifts on a Covid Ward might persuade................🤷♀️

People sadly read, listen and believe all sorts of things for all sorts of reasons, it’s nothing new. It’s very difficult to persuade most to consider a different point of view as well, once the theories take root. I tend to ignore if it only harms themselves, but you can’t if it affects lots of other innocent people.☹️
