Balance payment for overseas trips

Went to pay my balance for a ferries booking today and found that it was not possible to log in and do it. I had booked on the new 2020 travel site which i found was great and received a booking confirmation/invoice  which at the bottom said i was responsible to pay the balance and had to telephone them. Having booked on line i did not see why i should use my pay as go phone for this. All sorted by using the online chat facility as long as i used the same credit card.

However the point of this is to advise people that if you book by phone you are  given the choice of an automatic payment at the balance date.  It turns out that they were going to do this as well for me after making an online booking, but no advice about it. Hopefully they will update the web site to advise poeple in the future and save wasting everyones time. I suggest that as soon as anyone receives a holiday confirmation  from an online booking they immediatly email back and check if a auto payment will be made when the following is received.

"Instruction for final balance payment must be received by the balance due date shown above. Please call our contact centre on 01342 316101"

    Hi footlooserv

Thanks for pointing this out to us that there is no mention of an automatic final balance payment when booking online. I will pass the information on to the relevant team for them to look into.

I hope you have a great trip in 2020.

    Kind Regards

    Tracy

    Hi footlooserv,

I have just been speaking to our overseas travel team and they have shown me the online booking system. When you see the deposit amount and the box to click to proceed you will see an empty box next to it with the words Take Balance Payment. Next to that there is an 'i' to click on which says "if checked, the remaining balance will be deducted automatically on the due date".

I hope this helps and clears up any confusion.

    Best Wishes

    Tracy

I used it today to book a trip to Spain and it seemed OK. Fortunately I read the booking conditions first or I would have been surprised by the 20% deposit required this year instead of the previous £75 etc for years gone by, though to be fair  this will be swings and roundabouts depending on the overall cost of the trip.

harryb, I've checked yesterday (as we're still not able to commit 100% to a definite date) and it seems much improved.  When I want to get a second quote, at least it's now keeping the car's dimensions which I input initially, rather than getting the greyed-out box for height, which was a problem.  But it still only gives quotes for those particular days, and on 1 day won't give me a quote for an afternoon sailing, when I know there is one! In fact, it's Portsmouth-Caen, and there are afternoon sailings every day on that route, AFAIK.

Also, the site night vouchers are still hit and miss; you need to have the "Sites" tab open, and then click, several times on the map, to get the banner with the vouchers.  Nowhere is there an option to either tick, or click on, that says "Site night vouchers", which I'd have thought would be the logical way of offering them.  At least that's how it was in the previous system.

So, yes, some improvement, but "could do better" wink

If you have received confirmation and paid the deposit to a site, then you can be sure that your visit is booked. However, due to Covid regulations and travel restrictions, arrangements can change very quickly, and it's these that may affect whether you can actually go or not.
