Sorry to hear that.  I'd be interested to know which one you got and where from.  Our neighbours lent us theirs (Morphy Richards) ages ago and we've been using that.  I've been looking to buy one, but they are out of stock everywhere, except for the super-expensive ones!

Hope you get yours sorted, how disappointing for you.

It was their latest model, beginning 20 (can't recall it just now.) Damaged unfortunately so I won't name the seller as they appear to be dealing with it properly, money not refunded yet so not quite sorted. It was a very neat unit so I might try one again if I can find it in stock!? My present one is an old Prima, the bread pan is larger than MR and the unit is large and hefty.

Thanks for that, brue, it was MR I had been looking at.  You're quite right in not naming the supplier while a refund is being sorted.  I'll keep looking on 't internet for one, should be able to get one at some point!  We've got our neighbour's breadmaker for the time being and they're not bothered about getting it back yet, but I just don't like keeping something I've borrowed for too long.

Good luck with the refund and sourcing another one.

I've got a cheese and onion loaf on the go at the moment. I'm a bit unsure about it because it's a recipe I got online and uses "cups" as measurements. When I looked up exactly what a "cup" meant I got as many different answers as sources. And it's different for flour and liquids! And I'm not sure if it's  US cups or UK cups! We'll just have to wait and see - the proof of the loaf will be in the eating (if it turns out to be edible at all!) wink

Moulesy. I've got a Canadian recipe book, it says 1 cup = 250 ml liquid and 250 ml dry.....if that's any help and I've  looked at the back of the book just now and its says a cup is a standard 8 fluid ounce! Bring back Mary Berry and Delia. laughing

Hope the end result is tasty!

Good news about the refund smile no, I've been looking for a while, but can't find any either.  Neighbours aren't bothered about having theirs back, so we can keep it however long we want; it's just that I don't like keeping hold of something borrowed for too long.

Got plenty of flour, yeast is a bit more difficult to come by, but still have enough for 6 loaves, so hopefully in the meantime will be able to get some more.

OH was saying she had noticed breadmakers were out of stock pretty much everywhere.  I wonder if all those who bought them up will continue to use them!

We have found that it is far more difficult to get bread flour than to get bread, which was only snapped up in the first couple of weeks of lockdown.

Lidl now have strong white flour, but no wholemeal, and yeast is difficult to find.  Fortunately, as it turned out, we had bought dried yeast just before lockdown as we forgot we had already bought some, so still have 2 tins.  Plus we found some big bags of strong white in Tesco just after lockdown so were able to stock up for us and DD....only 2 bags each.

I'm ok for flour, I like having the big bags from the mill. Down to my last supply of yeast, can't find any more at the moment.

We never did manage to get any flour from the Mill, Matthews,  OH got locked out as they said they did not recognise her e mail, but then said she could not register afresh as her e mail was already in use!

She e mailed them and asked for them to resolve the problem,  but  they did not reply, so a customer lost, which we found very disappointing as they have some interesting flours.

They also appear to have dried yeast, quite expensive though

I've been looking at Lakeland, amongst others, their cheaper one has been unavailable for weeks, only the £134.99 one is now available, but that is more than I want to pay. Have a Morphy Richards on loan from next-door, and wanted one of those, but can't find it anywhere.

Thanks KJ, having seen the Morphy Richards one and had to return it I think I might go for the compact Panasonic around £99....but there aren't any available. So will trundle on with my old Prima till things improve, big worldwide demand for all things baking has caused these shortages.

InaD, it was a MR 502001, very neat design, apologies I couldn't remember previously. It was one of only three in stock at the time. frown

Thanks brue, I keep looking, but see no breadmakers!  At least not in my price bracket.

    One day.......

I bought yeast from Amazon- huge bag, should last me a lifetime!

Flour I’ve been buying from britishcornershop.co.uk (check the co.uk), a bit more expensive but they have a reasonable range and only takes a few days to arrive.

i use a Panasonic machine. It doesn’t have a timer as such for overnight baking, you just add hours onto the time you want, I.e. if you put it on at 10 p.m. and want it finished at 7 a.m. you put the time on for 9 hours instead of the 5 it sets automatically.

I can't find yeast anywhere, except a highly inflated priced tin on Amazon. A worldwide shortage due to brewing industry cut backs, even marmite is only available in small jars, I hear....frown

DD managed to get flour from Asda this week, no idea about yeast though.

At Tesco it is listed as out of stock, but Asda seem to have it.  However, not familiar with how their website works regarding what is in stock.

If you want flour as well as yeast, the Dove Farm Flout box has both.

Well yeast has arrived in plenty, farmshop, ebay and wholefoodsonline (who only allowed one packet) so I had to hedge my bets!

Just made a Malt loaf.  This is our tried and tested recipe

    3 cups SR flour

    Pinch of Salt

3 tablespoons Ovaltine (don't forget to sing the song)

    1 cup sugar

    1 cup dried fruit

    1/2 pint of milk

    Mix ingredients thoroughly

Grease a 2ibs loaf tin.  Set oven gas mark 3 (325F)

Bake for 1.5 to 2 hours

Waiting is the hard bit as its delicious

Trying out some Sharpham Spelt flour in the breadmaker just now. Anyone had a go with it? I've mixed it with white flour.

I've also just stocked up with strong white flour from Hobbs bakery north of Bristol (it arrived in a couple of days and came from the Shipton Mill.) The previous supplier had no stock. frown (FWP Matthews.)

I'm sticking with spelt, I mix it 1/3 spelt to 2/3 white flour, makes a tasty loaf. (just as an update because I'm fed up with seeing my post on here! laughing)

If you're looking in Oneputt, I've been retaining the malt loaf idea! But I'm going to try it out in my new machine so the ingredients will be slightly different. I've ordered some Barley Malt extract from our local farm shop and when it arrives I'll try making one in the machine. I'm wondering if you can use the extract instead of Ovaltine in the hand made version?

Anyway, having spent some time reading up about the extract (not Marmite!) I realised how good it is for us and it might be a boost for some through the months ahead. So back to a spoonful of malt everyone (if you remember standing in the kitchen with your mouth open!) wink

OH has just placed an order with Shipton Mill for a selection of flours, so I am looking forward to trying out some different recipes soon.

Better buy some more yeast too.
