Understandable but this has been spoken of for months. I do read news but my opinions remain my own.

Fair enough but this relates to the official PHS report out today.

I think we are all aware regardless of whichever country we live in that the Virus has been sent into Care Homes, either knowingly or through simply not testing. I also think it rather disingenuous of the FM of Scotland to say that there is no "Statistical Data to prove that this lead to deaths ..." Commonsense says that if you send a killer virus into an environment where vulnerable people live and who have to stay locked in with someone with that virus that a non infected person will catch it and die. Statistical data be blowed.

I thought you were more realistic about how this virus has affected the world ? Sweden  seemed to have gone the same way with their care homes and elderly when it first hit them

As posted many times in many publications the world over no one really knows how to keep the virus at bay , they are all trying diferent methods and systems with differing temporary "positive ?"results

Particularly evident as it was considered necessary to stop face to face visits.

WN I’ve stated before that when this virus is behind us there will be some very hard questions & allegations need answering. Plus the out & out lies from Govt that the NHS had adequate PPE when the NHS staff were actually begging for PPE☹️

China knows.....either fudge the data.....dont report at all....or keep people infected locked up in their homes and throw away the key undecided

There is only one of those alternatives that may keep the virus at bay. The other two just keeps the extent of the virus hidden from the rest of the world.

Nottinghamshire according to the BBC went into tier 3 at midnight. Although you wouldn't know it from the Covid App on my phone, which still shows we are in tier 2. OH's phone with the same post code does show we are now tier 3. It's no wonder some folk are confused.

Just for anyone interested....Blackburn in Darwen has now been in some form of restrictive measures for the last 13 weeks, yet it still has the highest case rate in the UK.

TTDA, as a person born and bred in Blackburn and still with some very strong family ties within the region, i can tell you that cases are probably very high for some historic reasons which still prevail today, and if you were to visit some areas of Blackburn and Darwn today you would understand why this is the case, incidentally Blackburn and Darwn were 2 seperate entities but have now been rolled into 1.

and if you have seen some of the scenes in the centre of Nottingham from last night, I am not surprised the Covid App has not been updated, the authorities are probably still trying to clear up the area left in a total mess by last night revellers.

The virus will be out of control in weeks and then the Sh... hits the fan. The same people will then blame everyone else for the situation

well the latest to come out of a scientific establishment in Switzerland, is that the strain of covid now rampant in the EU comes from Spain....Spanish farm workers....identified in July/August, now circulating in the EU as a result of holidaymakers returning infected from Spain , cool

probably from the same country that will provide hundreds of workers to kill our Turkeys , pack them & freeze them so that we can all have a jolly good Christmas, apparently we dont have enough trained butchers in the UK to fullfill this task....maybe yet another strain of covid to grace our shores.yell

Some 40 plus mutations of CV19 have been identified so far.  This  is not unexpected and makes it very difficult if not impossible to produce a vaccine.  Flu, another coronavirus, is the same.  Each years the experts try to predict which five or six of the current strains of flu will affect each population and try to tailor the vaccine to suit.  I expect that is what will happen to in the case of a annual CV19 vaccine.  One size will not fit all.

Precisely. I think there is a lack of clarity in Westminster in terms of why it’s spreads so quickly in certain places. This is not the fault of those living in such places, it’s the lack of understanding amongst those making decisions.

It’s not going to spread as quickly in sparsely populated rural areas (unless you let the tourists in), but it will quickly get out of control in small terraced housing where generations of maybe 8-9-10 persons share a house. Add into the mix that most of the workers in that household might be doing very low paid work, have zero hour contracts so they have to work to earn, some members might not be able to understand English, and bingo......it’s game on.

The agricultural workers in Spain will no doubt live in very bad conditions (they certainly did in the documentary I watched) and face the same challenges, overcrowding, poor sanitation, poverty, exploitation. It’s a nest just ripe for viral infections to spread. Not their fault.

Human interaction and movement is the key to spread. Effectively managing this is critical to getting the case rates down. Getting the case rates down is key to economy.......vicious cycle at the moment.

That can be said for most countries as evn those who thought they had it under control are now running around like headless chickens wondering what to next do

Many countries, including those that make up the UK, have lost control of their population and because of that the virus.

When you see people like those in Nottingham last night its no use blaming the Government. Its individuals who are causing the problem.

You are right, but were they acting as they were because the powers that be have failed to get the message across?   Or do you put it all down to crass selfishness, ignorance, and stupidity?  Perhaps they should have corralled the lot and handed the biggest fine possible to each and every one of them as an example.

probably 95 pct correct, but no point in dishing out fines because it is probably a case of "cant pay wont pay"

It’s more a question of Westminster seeking to micro manage all areas of the country from London, and not listening to local politicians, specialists, representatives from those areas that isn’t helping. That’s why you now have a group of Northern Tory MPs trying to feed on the ground information back to the decision makers, they are worried for their constituents.

(Any discussion around ethnicity/cultural differences will inevitably bring out some arguments, and agree not for this forum)

I think they do know what to do, they are just putting off doing it.

A total lockdown works but can any country afford another one. If they do will folk adhere to it. If they can't or won't do as they are asked when its not the full lockdown what chance is there.

We are already seeing folk travelling over the county lines to go drinking. I cannot understand why they have to do this, if they must drink then buy it in an drink at home. We've seen folk sitting outside under a cover in the pouring rain, coats, hats and gloves on. Now that is Covid Madness.

I am constantly told that policing is done by consent in this country. The problem at the moment is that there is an increasing number of people who  don't agree with the restrictions which are being imposed on them by the Government involving covid and therefore are not abiding by them. In these circumstances it is very difficult for the police to deal with.

Hard to know what’s driving the increase in the northwest, other than population density (and I don’t mean intelligence).

Wigan MBC has a population of around 300k and 8 weeks ago we were recording 30-35 cases a week, the lowest in Greater Manchester and comparable to the national rate. Then, all of a sudden we have the second highest rate in G. Manchester with 2086 positive tests recorded in the last week.
Like most other post industrial towns we have a mix of housing, no (or very little) high rise buildings, lots of terrace streets in the town centres (it isn’t just Wigan, it’s also Leigh and the surrounding small towns). We don’t have a high proportion of multi-generation housing unlike Some areas in Burnley, Blackburn etc. We also have lots of green space, good quality housing, no Universities and the people are no more inclined to break the rules than any other areas.

There was a local ‘survey’ by the local authority who checked the rate of mask wearing in supermarkets - it was around 95%, and we haven’t had young people partying in the streets after the pubs close. So what caused the jump, what happened in September? Schools and colleges went back but they did all over the country.
