    I was surprised to hear it described as a greenfield site when it already has substantial buildings from the 60s/70s on it, to me it's a mixture of brown and green including a paddock area, previously for the horses. The Secretary of State will see all the representations in writing. I guess if it was a huge development visits might be incorporated etc. I wonder if the Baltic Wharf development will get called in, I guess not?! wink

    Sounds like positive news. We have never stopped in Bristol, but I really fancy it. Not good with dogs in past, so we gave it a wide berth.

    In my working days, I attended a lot of Council meetings. Before they were recorded. Some fell asleep, some didn’t have a clue, some had their own agendas. Funniest memory is of going to one just after local school, a big comprehensive was set on fire. Our Amenities and a Recreation Committee were involved because campus had a public swimming pool on it, so I was there to explain what was happening, as the pool had been emptied of water to help fight the fire. Somewhat to my astonishment, they had a go at the Fire Service, who had at least had the foresight to leave enough water in the pool to safely keep our pumps and filtration system working rather than burning out. (Lots of grumbling about who was going to foot the bill for filling it up again.) When asked how did I know this, I told them that it was my husband who had emptied the pool, as Officer in charge of the incident, and he considered saving a school more economic than refilling a tank of water! 🤣🤣🤣

    My son has sent me this link https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/7674/circularconsultationdirect.pdf which sets out the framework for referral to the Secretary of State. In the case of this proposed site it seems to revolve around two issues 1) Risk of Flooding and 2) Redevelopment in the Green Belt. Should we remain hopeful? Well given the Club have a lot of experience of dealing with the likes of the site in York hopefully that will influence the decision. As to the Green Belt surely they have to take into account that what is propose is far less intrusive that what currently occupies the site. So perhaps it is more positive? Bet the Club is glad it doesn't have to jump through so many hoops every time they open a new site!!!

    Its hard to believe that permission would not be given when you look at the state of the current site and you consider that at some point in the not too distant future, Network Rail will also want to "build" in the same area. Their requirement is for a maintenance area with access from Clanage road. If ithe proposed Club site was turned down because of the flood risk then one wonders if the planned buildings at Baltic Wharf would ever be approved because, while it is not Green Belt, it is also in a zone 3 flood area?

    No one objects either when hundreds of cars use the adjoining Bedminster Cricket club grounds as an overflow car park for Bristol City football at Ashton Gate. wink

    Now the new site has got over the main hurdle ,will the City Fathers allow Baltic Wharf to remain open until the new site is opened ?

    I doubt it JVB, all the plans are in place and I presume the developer will want to get going?

    I think it is a company owned by the Council. Not sure why that should be but perhaps Councils can't build properties to sell. Also it might be a way of sidestepping financial constraints placed on the Council?

    But then there have been in the past ,several proposed sites in areas that members have wanted the club to be represented but NIBY oppositon and local planners have been to much "

    To whomever made the original post: It doesn't take you through to the actual link to your planning application. I suggest you update this so that people can find the planning application and comment on it more easily. :)

    We have just had another lovely stay at Baltic Wharf, probably our last.  Spent several hundred pounds in total (fees, fuel, theatre, eating) which Bristol clearly does not want any more. As far as I can tell Clanage Road is a non starter as the Secretary of Stae has overturned the Inspectors grant.  Such a shame.  Is there any further news?

    No except the clean air zone in central Bristol area comes into force on the 28th and the Portishead railway which goes past the Clannage Rd site alongside the Avon got the go ahead!

    Does the Club have the opportunity to appeal? Before it went to the Secretary of State I read the reports which I thought were a bit thin on factual evidence regarding flooding and seem to completely ignore the experience the Club have in evacuating campsites in similar positions (York). Perhaps the Club need to employ a more robust Planning and Legal representative team? I suppose the truth is that elements of Bristol's Planning Department, clear from the initial objections,  did not want a campsite in that area and seem to have been putting obstacles in the way to make sure it didn't succeed. I assume that if a campsite can't be built there the Club will sell the land. It will be interesting see what they use the land for eventually?

    I you remember the first "reason?"for terminating the lease on Baltic Wharf was because the ground was needed ,to build a "primary school?" Which the City Fathers seem were hoping would cover up the real reason for wanting the ground which I think also encompasses the boat yard next door? Of building luxury flats at a huge profit yell

    It doesn't affect the boat yard (or Cottage Inn) JVB and the site has to provide a mixture of private and social housing with affordable rents. The plans have been available to view for a long time. Whether the new flood prevention scheme will alleviate predicted river rises remains to be seen. The river Avon is affected by the massive tidal range in the Bristol Channel, one of the highest in the world.

    Maybe the club will find a better and less controversial site in the end?

    Baltic Wharf was certainly unique.

    I see from the November magazine page 24 that the Club has a years extension on the Baltic wharf lease which makes the site available until December 2024. They also state they intend to re-apply for planning permission for the development of the Police Training ground site which they now own. If they get it, it will be much better than Baltic Wharf for some, including me, because it is outside the Clean Air Zone.

    I hope they can get an alternative site if/when Baltic wharf closes, but I would prefer the Baltic wharf site simply because it is inside the clean air zone.

    Metheven it a £100 charge for me to enter the clean air zones. Currently when visiting Bristol I use Oakham Treasures a C&CC CS.

    That aside I think it very good news that the Club are not giving up on Clanage Road. Having read through the objections I thought most of them could have been overcome with a more robust planning advocate and a specialist Barrister? OK Baltic Wharf could survive another two or three years depending on the current housing market but as soon as that market improves the pressure will be on to redevelop the site. So if things go well and they have success with Clanage Road it could work out rather nicely.

    If you have a tablet it is easy to read on line with the App. Doesn't seem to work from the web site on a PC.

    I hope they sucede with re-applying as it puts the Centre within walking distance.
