I'll never tow a caravan. Oops what happened

Hi

After years of camping and trailer tents I've given in and bought a twin axle caravan for holidays.

Thought I'd join the discussions as no doubt I'll be needing plenty of advice smile

We've bought a 2008 compass rallye 634 and an air awning and pick it up next week. Comes with aqua roll, wastewater, cable and gas.

Starting to compile a list of must have items so any suggestions are welcome.

If you see someone struggling to set up and being menaced by 2 dogs it will be me.

Paul

Best of luck in your "new" adventure.

At least you have had some towing experience and some of the setting up will be familiar. As you have a TA you'll probably have a motor mover so it should be a doddle.

Need any info then ask away.

Hi Paul and welcome to CT.  Have a browse around the index and, if you need advice on anything in particular, just start a new thread and somebody will be able to help.

    Enjoy your new van.

Oh No!! you haven't bought a 2008 compass rallye 634 didn't you read any of the warnings on Club together...

    Only Joking!!!!!

Is that the model with the L shaped lounge seating and big window

Enjoy your new venture, plenty of advice available here when you need it.

It may sound obvious but you didn't mention if it came with a battery, some people swap their battery out when they sell on, leaving the next owner to buy a new one.

Yes that is the one. It has the  layout we like and a decent size shower.

Yes the deal came with aqua roll, wastemaster, new battery, hook up lead, step and chemicals.

Now I'm shopping for mirrors, wheel locks, hitch lock etc etc wink

We once had a Compass and found it well made.  Maybe any hitchlock will fit I don’t really know but I do remember it being on a non alko chassis so got a Winterhoff hitchlock.  It was I think a BPW chassis.  Might be worth investigating.   Good luck and enjoy.

I hope you have a vehicle to tow it as the mtplm is about 1900kg so a vehicle around 2200kg to give you the recommended 85% ratio.

    Hi Paul

We have been in caravan and motorhome over approx 4 years and find caravan to be the best option for us, we had a lunar SI and nearly changed to  a lunar SR basically to get the shower in centre but saw the swift challenger 850X with L shape lounge and we love it and decided this is a keeper, we have learned lots along the way from others on site and on reviews and still learning.  Good luck be safe and enjoy.

Good luck and enjoy your new holiday home.

The only stupid question for this site is the one you never asked, because you will never know the answer.

So ask away and we will be here to help if we can.
