I used to have a "rolling about on the floor laughing" icon but I think I must have worn it out.  I could sure use it now.

    Ha Ha!  Found it.

A thought just occurred to me, could the slowness have anything to do with an out of date Microsoft search engine on my machine?

I only ask because the other week MS suggested I change to 'Edge', whatever that is.  Is this a good package with which to surf the net?

Does it beat other search engines hands down, or, is it so new and full of holes that it is useless?

Your serious comments would be welcomes, thanks.

You could be getting mixed up between a browser, Internet Explorer/Edge/Chrome/Firefox and a search engine like Google/Yahoo/Bing? Unfortunately whatever you use, as has been said, the forum is slow and no amount of outside supercharging makes any difference!!!

Edge is just another browser. No better and no worse than the rest. I think it was new with W10 and has since been released for older Windows versions.

I use Edge, Safari, Chrome and Firefox. Believe me, this site crawls and stutters on them all.

In my experience, no website is ever fixed...  they continually tinker with them.  It's just that some websites are less fixed than others..    laughinglaughinglaughing

Usually I only access this site via home (slow router), laptop and Chrome.  I find everything slow when McAfee is cheking for updates and removing cookies etc so avoid using laptop at these times which I set myself.  I also clear history in Chrome frequently.  I like others get server errors but otherwise manage to use the site OK.

Judging by the number of 'error' messages this morning I would say the site is not fixed.

Its very slow to run and we are on 5G

I've had this several times today ( again )  :

The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred.

....my phone always works quicker than the laptop, which is now quite ancient.  I really must upgrade it!

Yesterday the club were promoting the use of ‘Late availability’ searches on their Facebook page.  I pointed out it wasn’t working as it should and the reply I got implied they had no idea there were issues.

I fear that until and unless somebody in management with some real clout and IT experience gets involved with this issue, it'll never be any better.  How many years now?

It needs something to concentrate their minds Jill, and poke those on high into action. Some sort of story sent to press about paying Members of UK’s biggest touring organisation being badly let down by a poor website and slow booking system, despite all the ongoing Member complaints, ought to do it. It’s akin to having a shop selling some very interesting stuff, but the windows are blacked out, so potential customers just walk past......

Nothing like getting press involved to get things moving, used to work a treat at work...........😂

One month on and still no improvement, think there should be a big shake up at the helm of this organisation come October

Not fit for purpose, NL should do a bit of work and get his pen out and sign a cheque to get site fixed by someone who knows what they are doing

Site running reasonably fast this morning. Possibly because everyone has given up and stopped using it.🤔 However, latest activity is showing a server error yet again.!!

I assume there must be something they need to reset, probably when it gets full, like with my cache. There are only 5 entries in it currently, so presumably it will work for a while before falling over again.

I think this server error lasted over 12 hours. Is that a record? 😤

Would it matter if it wasn’t fixed and left to wither on the vine?

The software is dysfunctional and I haven’t seen any commitment to make it for purpose. It should allow folks to connect purposefully with a wide range of people with similar interests. In reality it connects you to a tiny proportion of the membership (or not). There’s barely any technical content, anything slightly contentious gets instantly shut down, posts frequently resemble a redacted Government document! Sections like ‘what are you all up to’ are irrelevant for me. I’m not interested in sharing the minutiae of my life with a small group of strangers. Some useful, informative threads come & go, but not nearly enough for a Club that likes to think of itself as the premier Caravanning and MH Club. If your primary interest is the latter, compare this site with Motorhomefun for functionality, content and moderation for an example of what’s possible given commitment and investment.

If I’m bored I look in, but the Caravan and Motorhome world wouldn’t be a poorer place without this Forum.

Doesn’t change my basic proposition. I’ve been bored a lot since 23 March!

It also makes me qualified to comment.

You must've been bored a lot longer than that, SB.😂

There are many, many forums that work more efficiently than this but they don’t all have a lot of active members. I can think of one that is a star performer but attracts less posters than this. I can also think of a very popular Caravanning forum that has a huge active membership, works better than CT but bores me to tears.

I don’t know what the answer is but decent functionality and sensible management/moderation employing joined up thinking has to be a good start. Perhaps some leadership from the club to generate sensible discussion with some facts given to quash speculation would be a start. Newcomers often post on here expecting a response from the club - they soon learn😆.

SeasideBill, over the years quite a few on here have actually met up and spoken to each other in real life and whether they have or not it would still be good if on line communications matched the live ones. wink
