Serviced pitches on Club Sites

My wife and I have been members of the club since 1975 and because of covid have been on a service pitch for the first time this week. I was only a youngster of 25 years old when I joined the club and am still very capable of filling the aqua roll and emptying the waste master. However we are totally converted to using service pitches and cannot understand why we didn't use them sooner. Not to have to go out in the pouring rain at an unearthly hour (which is when our water invariably ran out!!)or have the water run out half way through a shower was fantastic. It's progress and it has been too long coming. Our first caravan had gas lamps for lighting and a foot pump for water and we thoroughly enjoyed it, but we wouldn't thank you to go back to it!

Welcome to the SP fan club.

I remember when they said electric hook up would never catch on 😄

If you’re organised none of the inconveniences you describe would likely to happen. However, if your describing facilities for folks who’ve started to lose a grip, then that’s progress I guess. It’s a bit like 5* hotels providing toiletries in case you forget to bring your own and charging you handsomely for the privilege.

My first caravan did not even have 12volt electric it was gas light and foot pump for cold water only and single glazed glass windows which ran with condensation
It did have a double bed that dropped down from the rear wall,at night which made for plenty? of daytime space all in a big!! in those days 12ft c/van

I started booking serviced pitches as a way to guarantee a hard standing, but now I wouldn’t book anything else. If I can’t book a serviced pitch on a site I don’t go there, it’s that way for me I’m afraid and I suspect for a lot of other members.

It seems as though being in our later years 77 we are one of a minority ,who do not see the what the problem is by not using serviced pitches or mind if we are on grass
We have had both a PVC and Coachbuilt motor caravan without what some find "problems" with grass pitches
Which in normal times we would have by now done probably over 100 nights away on sites

I don't have a real problem with grass, even now we have a MH. Just as long as it is firm. Unfortunately this is difficult to guarantee in this country, particularly in April and October, where on many sites the grass is open.
In normal years the likelyhood of not getting a HS at these times has been low, particularly if you arrive soon after 12 / 1pm. This year with the greatly increased occupancy levels, it may be more of an issue.

Thought advertising on here was not allowed but if you insist, it is Woodovis just outside Tavistock, been before and liked it very much, although I am not sure all CAMC members would be up for it, but it has all that we need including a pool, is not too large, great svcd pitches, great dog walk, and centrally situated for lots of different areas throughout Devon and even into Cornwall, all we need is some good weather, but it is only 4 hours to home so we can always pack up and run for home, not that we have ever done that not even when we toured extensivly in Scotland including thru the winter We will just pretend we are in either France or Spain

do i care, it has pitches for RV's and tents, if a small number of statics and glamping pods subsidise my pursuit who am i to complain, this is another like Bingham Grange, quirky, and not liked by CAMC members, just hope they dont get their hands on Woodovis, that would be a tragedy anyway who wants to sit on a sterile touring park if that is what you call CAMC sites

It's advertising for personal gain that's not allowed.👍🏻
Woodovis is part of the Hoseasons empire. We had a member a few years back who sited his van there on a seasonal pitch. Wonder what happened to him?
Wow, it’s pricey and makes CAMC look cheap. Still you’ve got all the extras. Enjoy.

and any way i dont do touring, if i go away in my caravan in the UK i park up for a minimum of 2 weeks and explore the area either using shank's pony, cycle , or car, then pack up and either go home or move on and then do the same all over again, cant be a****, lifting and shifting every few days to travel a couple of hours down the road to a different site.

That’s the beauty of a MH, Rufs. Move on with no hassle👍🏻😄

Yeh but i cant cope with all the hassle of not being able to move on easily whilst at a certain location, and i just love driving out of the site in the pouring rain and leaving all those MH's stood at the bus stop
and anyway right now i have a 5 berth caravan, she might be old, but very spacious and sits well on a fully svcd pitch, and is not £50K+ sat on the drive at home for 6 months of the year doing nothing

We love Tavistock - haven't been to Woodovis but stayed at the C&CC site a few years back, also in Yelverton which I think is quite close? Stayed at a place called Kilworthy Farm for B&B last year when visiting a friend in the town and going to the Setter Rescue walk on Dartmoor. Talk about out in the sticks! Had to drive a couple of miles up a single track road past the rugby club and the farmhouse was right at the very end. Nice place to spend a couple of nights though. Very nice dog friendly pub at Peter Tavy where we had an excellent meal too. Hope the weather stays good - often does in September when the schools go back!

It’s you who has hassle in moving on according to your earlier post😄. For me, no trouble and no buses either and it moves all year round 👍🏻👍🏻.
Have you taken a trip up Kit Hill when in the area? Fabulous views.

never done it but on our list, now that i have had both knees replaced walking is somewhat easier than when we were last in the area, so would like to explore much more of the country park area , daughter No1 used to live in Tamerton Foliot so they know it very well.
