South of France
Not sure if this is the right place to post this but having never travelled to the south of France we are looking for a family friendly site (boys age 11 & 4) with direct access or v close to the beach, anywhere from Perpignan to Montpellier. Trying to avoid the large, noisy sites whilst still having a good pool for our boys. Any recommendations much appreciated.

I tried several times to find that sort of site along that stretch of coast - but failed and gave up. Others may know, but I still wonder whether small, quiet sites, with pools and beach access actually do exist between Perpignan and Montpellier. We never found one.
A little way inland things become more possible. It's not quite the area you ask for, but have a look at Camping Figurotta on the inland side of Narbonne - a site which went through a bad patch after the original Dutch owners sold up, but has been rejuvenated by the couple who own it now. It's small, quiet, well run, picturesque, and with a pool, but it means driving about half an hour to reach the sea. If you have a car and caravan that is doable, but if you are motorhomers perhaps not.

I stayed on a site with a pool a couple of hundred metres from the sea in Argeles but as it was almost forty years ago, I'm reluctant to recommend, even if I could remember the name. They do exist though.

Thank you for all replies. I thought it might be a tough ask from what I’ve seen in my research thus far. It’s for next year. Am aware of current restrictions. Am currently in France, returning tomorrow for our 2 week quarantine.

Camping le Paradis near Serignan.
It is situated on the outskirts of the small village near a large supermarket within walking distance of the site. The added bonus if you have cycles is there are cycle paths from the site off road which take you to the nearby beach at Valras plague 3 kilometres away. You can also ride to the Canal du Midi . You can cycle all over the area safely.
But getting back to the site. It is family owned and is spotless ( not just the toilet block everything is ) . The site is full of plants and trees which must make it the most pleasant site in the south of France which are normally dusty places. The owners are lovely people who speak fluent English. The swimming pool is always warm no matter what time of year you go. If you do decide to book the pitches at the rear of the site up a small Incline/ramp are the quietest pitches 140 to 148. I love it as you can tell.

As you have probably recognised its quite difficult to get all of what you want. There are plenty of reasonably quiet sites with direct access to the beach but they don't have a swimming pool. There are lots of large sites with a swimming pool and next to a beach but not many smaller sites that have both swimming pool and next to the sea. Do you actually need a pool if you are next to the sea? This site http://www.davidklyne.co.uk/camping_le_neptune.htm (sorry old review) has a pool and is a reasonably short walk or cycle ride to the sea.

Does it have to be France? The north Adriatic coast of Italy has a number of sites that meet your requirements with their own private beaches and swimming pools too. Camping Capalonga has a massive private beach and three separate swimming pools. Its a large site and never crowded on the beach (far too big) and the pools are a decent size too. There’s lots for a 4 and 11 year old to do including canoeing, archery, cycling (dedicated cycle paths) with free cycle ferries over the rivers and lagoons etc. There’s a large grassed area where you could set up a dozen cricket pitches or play football. Large on site supermarket and shops with 3 restaurants/snack bars where meals are far cheaper than the UK. We started coming here when out children’s were 6 and 3 and their grandchildren come to now. Worth a look.

I’ve stayed on many sites along that coast over the years and sadly most have morphed into ‘factory campsites’. However, I stayed at Camping la Plage et du Bord de Mer, Valras Plage last year and was pleasantly surprised. It’s quite a large site and has got everything you need at the entrance end to keep your boys amused. Beyond that is a large level site with direct (but secure) beach access. It’s far enough from the site facilities for peace & quiet and there’s plenty of space. Shop and restaurant onsite or other options nearby. Convenient for Beziers (lovely city) - bus stop outside gate. Probably not one for the French school holidays, but a good compromise for a family beach holiday.

Hi, depends when you are going but we stayed at Camping Sablons in 2017 and really enjoyed the site and area.
We were lucky and got two pitches almost by the gate to the beach and would have extended our stay but the site was fully booked, this was in June, and the queue of vehicles when we left was considerable, so may be same in August but by now probably getting quieter.
Site seemed well organised, facilities were clean and pitches reasonable. The beach is huge and there was no crowding at all.
The site has a superb, but adult only, Balenotherapy pool area in addition to the main pool.
We stayed using ACSI so unsure what 'full' rates are.
