Ducato Oil Level Sensor

Anybody here experienced the generic fault warning light? It’s the amber triangle enclosing an exclamation mark. Mine's been lighting up intermittently so took into Fiat Professional dealer today. Turns out it’s a faulty oil level sensor, a relatively cheap part, but 6 or 7 labour hours to fit!

My Fiat 150 Multijet is less than 5 months out of its 2 year warranty, so now gearing up for a fight with Fiat as research indicates this is a common problem and lockdown has obviously reduced the time available for the fault to emerge and be diagnosed. The Fiat dealer is assisting me in making representations to Fiat - fingers crossed.

We may have to go back to the old steam driven method of  inspection of the dipstick at periodic intervals.

When I first got my Touareg, I spent ages looking under the bonnet for the dipstick.  It was only when I finally resorted to looking in the handbook that I realised there wasn't one!

Was it purchased new as I thought that all vehicles bought in the UK have a 3 year warranty on parts and labour.

Our Hymer (Fiat base) is only two years, I thought that was fairly standard. Sounds like a very expensive sensor. I'll keep my fingers crossed🤞that if it is going to go wrong, it does it in the remaining 6 months of warranty. Although due to Covid, it is unlikely we will have done more than 7000 miles in it by then.

Oh although my Nissan had 3 years. OH's Toyota had 5 years.

I think UK supplied Fiat vans have 3 years warranty, continental supplied only 2 years. Mine is German, hey ho frown

Illustrates the nonsense of pointless technology though. Never heard anybody complaining about having to use a dipstick. However, I think there are some out there who think you should go and buy another dipstick when it doesn’t reach the oil anymore!

I wish auto gearboxes were still fitted with them instead of this silly idea of sealed for life ....

Yes, definition of ‘life’ is always an interesting point in such scenarios and would you want to continue using a dealer network that overcharges and provides poor service just in case your ‘lifetime’ guarantee needs to be tested?
