France in August 2020

Has anyone visited Quimper in Brittany during July/August 2020? We have booked a site through CMC for late August - we accept we may have to quarantine on return but we can handle that OK. However, if markets and other such venues are closed we’re not sure if the trip is worth it. Can anyone shed any light on what the situation is on the ground? Thank you. Guy.

We are not there right now because one of us is not well enough to travel - but to answer your question Yes, the markets are open - with masks required at outdoor as well as indoor markets. But much as I like the indoor market hall in Quimper and then a seafood lunch at the busy Bar Iode just outside I am not sure they would be on my visiting list list this year.

We would stay at a much smaller campsite with fewer people than the one the Club has booked for you, and could easily find quiet, isolated beaches - but is that enough to justify going?  I doubt it, and reckon it would be a disappointment compared with the things we would usually do on a normal holiday in that area as some fetes, festivals, and parades have certainly been cancelled.

But frankly I think the UK government will take the decision out of your hands quite soon and advise against you going there at all but I wish you well whatever happens.

Thanks for your thoughts eurotraveller. Agreed with most of what you say except we are desperate to get away and also, if the government only slaps quarantine on us but does not forbid travel to France, I believe we will not get any refund. Anyway, decisions to be made no doubt at the last minute of the toss-a-coin variety. Thanks again.

Try the thread titled Brittany and Covid. It's in the same section as this one. I think Squeaky Dad, the opening poster, has contacted a T.I.in Brittany. Might help you along.

If you look at the FCO advice on Belgium you will see that you are  advised not to travel and also quarantine on return.  The quarantine and non travel seem to go together.  So if the FCO state quarantine on return from France would probably also be a FCO non travel advice area with all the insurance implications should you decide to ignore.  We are in the same situation re a trip to Germany/Italy in Sep and monitor the situation regularly.  It is not looking good.  My advice would be let the Club cancel so you would get a refund; if you cancel before FCO change advice you would probably not get a refund.

Just read that people returning from France from 04.00 hours on Saturday will have to quarantine for 14 days. I assume France might consider asking new arrivals to do the same. Keep an eye on developments.

Looks like our trip will be off then.  Sad.  However, will wait a week before cancelling everything - just in case things change.  We will be able to rearrange tunnel any time up to 12 months ahead and have made a couple of site bookings to prove transit only through Austria; luckily no deposits needed.  Ever the optimist.laughing
