Not just those but also the "local hero" fraterinty,
When talking about motor caravaners who want a cheap/free overnight with Facilities?
The other major drawback over here is the lack of those who uphold the law, where as if (it seems) there are problems as will happen these days in any country, it is not "tolerated"in other countries ,but over here ?

It was closed when we stopped at Tebay last summer.

It was closed quite a while ago....but LOOK....LINK
That's before certain posters start saying things like claptrap again, such a charming way of admitting they haven't read anything properly...should have gone to Barnard Castle as the new proverb says.

I would agree JVB. No idea about the legalities but purely from use of words.
Parking is defined as. Leaving a vehicle in a particular place for a period of time. (Nothing about staying / sleeping in it)
Camping is defined as. The act of staying or sleeping in an outside area. (Nothing about using tables, chairs or BBQ's)

There is also the intangible benefit to the local economy that the provider (LA, commercial, Club) would not see is how much these extra visitors would spend in the local area that they will not benefit from directly but people with jobs, tea rooms, tourist attractions etc. would.

sorry not we see in our local area, MH's/campervans come stacked to the gunnels with stuff bought in Aldi/Lidle, only the ice cream man may profit.
They come they drink they eat but all stuff brought with them and then leave all their rubbish behind for the LC to clean up at cost, along our beach front 3 plastic waste bins set on fire in the last week as a result of people throwing disposable bbq's into them, not always Mh's or campervans but that is the cost we have to bear and they are big expensive bins, coupled with burnt picknic tables something else somebody has to pay for to replace, me as a LC tax payer, oh! and not to mention the burnt grass where people think it is ok to put disposable bbq onto grass.
In our area we dispair, but not as much as those in more popular resorts in Dorset/Devon/Cornwall, you have to live in the area or close by to see exactly what is taking place just now, corvid-19 has a lot to answer for

Brue, the point was that not EVERY over night parking area chooses to apply thise conditions, hence Canterbury being a prime example.
so it cannot be the 'law' which was what JVB was claiming.
in fact i found the opposite to be true....skipping through the first few pages, by county, only Devon mentioned the spacing....most other didnt, which is as i expected...

That would be a easier working definition. This debate about what constitutes parking -v- camping is getting a bit nebulous. We all know Aires are somewhere you can legally sleep, car parks not unless it clearly states overnight stays are permitted. Anything in between is at own risk.
We always travel light and spend a lot of money in local shops (independent & supermarkets) and can’t resist stopping at a farm shop to buy local produce, probably every day we’re touring. I’m sure many MH owners do likewise.

school/college playing fields, along with rugby/football grounds are used out of season/term as Temporary Holiday Sites by the C&CC.
Of course, as these are temp 'camping grounds' the spacing applies... they are not parking areas.

why do french, spanish, german taps never get vandalised?
a small cameo but a huge indicator.
perhaps the underlying answer will give some clue as to why we are different (and we most certainly are) and why simple services that millions of europeans take for granted could never get off the ground here...
sadly, it speaks volumes and reinforces why i choose to be elsewhere whenever i can....why on earth would anyone bother?

Brue, what seems to be your beef? youre a cheeky little monkey, arent you
your own earlier link showed that not all parking overnight is subject to strict 6m spacing....that would be a nonsense in a facility like Canterbury, or Tebay...as they dont mention spacing on your link.
if you can show me that ALL MH parking facilities require a 6m spacing ill happily go along with you...
JVB claims to know all about caravanning....thats wonderful for him and his 'contacts' but the discussion is about overnight MH parking provision and, if providing water/waste services we might call it an aire (for the uninitiated....perhaps even like yourself or are you a regular user?)
...but his knowledge regarding aires is still as i described....

Steve, whatever 'definition' you find, the only one that means anything in this thread's context is how its applied to users of aires.
start getting tables and chairs out on a recognised aire and you are no longer 'parking'....you will be deemed to be 'camping'...perhaps its to do with how continental sites get their planning permissions?
i dont know, however you will be in breach of the aire regs and, should the fee collector be a gendarme (often the case), I'm sure he will be able to persuade you of the fact.

More than half of this thread seems to be taken up with getting personal. nit picking or pedantics. What chance of running an Aire for people who cant even discuss things without having a go at each other?
I cant be bothered with it.

It prove my point as posted earlier, your Absense from this web site has not improved your attiude to trying to justify your incorrect stance as far as snything that it seems because it "works? for you , when "over there" must be in your opinion not correct although the council concerned would have consulted what is legal before implementing it

It is no different it seems in many countries ,but with the space most others have compaired to here maybe we are all to close together ,but could not believe the huge amount of graffitti there is on approach to and in the less show case areas of Paris even all the vans in a market were smothered

Yes, but that’s the essence of this Forum.

That old chestnut again JVB.
How do you explain the 350 or so Aires between Belgium and the Netherlands, when both of them have a much greater head of population per Square Km, the Netherlands double that of the UK? Germany isn't that far behind us yet have hundreds of them. You can't keep using that old excuse. It doesn't bear scrutiny.
There are other more cultural reasons why they haven't taken off here.

Let’s not let our love affair with France & Spain mean we lose sight of reality. There’s plenty of anti-social behaviour in both countries whether it’s graffiti, vandalism, littering or petty crime. Better in some places, worse in others. It’s just that as tourists we tend to spend our time in nicer places with less incidence. The same would apply in the UK. Don’t knock your own country unfairly. Public toilets in just about any rest area on major routes in France and Spain are disgusting.

I just said it. I love ‘over there’, but I’m not in denial.
