Overseas road charges

Hi,

Can anyone shed some light on the different charges/certificates required for the following:

1) France - I believe its a "critair" emissions certificate.

2) Switzerland - I have a Kontiki sport 599 which has a permissible mass of 4.2tonne listed on the V5 (although the in service mass is 3.4tonne). I've notice in Switzerland you need a vignette for vehicles under 3.5tonne however over 3.5tonne has a daily levy applied although i can't find out how much this daily rate is?

3) Germany - I believe an emission certificate is required if you enter certain towns/cities and these can be purchase at service stations on route? I have tried the clubs link to purchase a certificate however I cant find the uk on the country list drop down? Has anyone been successful?

Thanks in advance.

Phil

France you only need a Critair in certain cities but we have one anyway just in case and only costs a few Euros.

Not sure about Switzerland but look at the overseas section on here for some information or just Google.

Germany again like France you need an Umwelt Certificate, costs about 5 Euros from the Berlin.de website so we got one and thee are more cities where you need one so worth it.  You need to upload your V5 or CoC to prove.

    Thanks Michael,

I've managed to order the Critair and Unwelt certificates. I followed the link on this web site for the German certificate cost 6 Euros says it will be delivered within 2 weeks.

Switzerland is still a mystery, I've emailed the government to clarify.

    No mystery !

Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes pay a charge of 3.25 Swiss francs per day (minimum charge 25 Swiss francs). This payment is required for all roads in Switzerland, not merely motorways.

An official sells vignettes at the roadside at the frontier for lighter vehicles. You will need to go into the office with your V5 to get the paperwork for heavier vehicles.

The Tolltickets website page for Switzerland has info and FAQs on the subject - see question 14 there.

Take a look at the Green Zones. Eu App you can input your own vehicle and see what emissions sticker you will need and any restrictions that apply.

In France and Germany you need to keep an eye on any restrictions that authorities place on driving according to pollution levels and restrictions that apply to your sticker, the above App is updated on a daily basis.

You can`t buy these stickers on route they are authority based and you need to forward vehicle details before you can obtain one. France has a Critiair website where you can purchase. I used to get a German one from Stadt Koln (Cologne Townhall) by forwarding documents and a five euro note in the post took no more than ten days, there are sites which charge thirty euro`s plus.
